Pierce’s split-decision over Rocha changed to unanimous nod
Mike Pierce is no stranger to split-decision outcomes in his fights, but Friday night’s split-decision nod over Carlos Eduardo Rocha at “UFC on FX 3” came as a surprise to more than just him.
And it should have, considering a judging error led to the wrong outcome altogether.
According to MMAjunkie.com, the decision should have been 30-27 across the board for Pierce, but instead one judge accidentally turned in a 30-27 score in favor of Rocha.
That judge, Ric Bays, immediately recognized his error, informing the Florida State Athletic Commission that he mixed up corners. The correct outcome was adjusted on the official record shortly after the error was made known to commission officials.
The change in the official decision means that Pierce’s three-fight split-decision streak has come to an end. He went 1-2 during that streak, including losses to Josh Koscheck and Johny Hendricks.
“UFC on FX 3” took place in Sunrise, Florida last Friday, featuring a flyweight rematch between Demetrious Johnson and Ian McCall.
