Light heavyweights Shogun Rua and Brandon Vera promoted to UFC on FOX 4 main event
A 205 lb. bout between Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Brandon Vera is the new main event of “UFC on FOX 4.”
UFC officially confirmed the news Thursday.
The news comes in the wake of Brian Stann’s injury, which HeavyMMA.com confirmed yesterday. Stann was set to meet UFC newcomer Hector Lombard in the main event on FOX.
Over a year removed from his UFC 128 loss to current champion Jon Jones, Rua finds himself struggling to climb back into contention. He defeated Forrest Griffin at UFC 134, but went on to lose to Dan Henderson at UFC 139 in one of the most entertaining fights in the history of the promotion.
Vera, meanwhile, continues to look for job security in the sport’s top promotion. After a loss to Thiago Silva at UFC 125, Vera was released by the promotion, but was brought back after Silva failed his drug test. The loss was turned to a no contest, and Vera went on to defeat Eliot Marshall at UFC 137.
“UFC on FOX 4” is set for August 4 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
