Diaz fine officially $79,500

Nick Diaz was originally expected to be fined $60,000 for a failed drug test following UFC 143, but the final amount is actually higher.

The price tag officially came in at $79,500, MMAjunkie.com confirmed today.

Diaz was suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for a full year, along with the fine, after testing positive for marijuana. The test came back after his decision loss to Carlos Condit in the February 4 main event for the interim welterweight title.

He was fined 30 percent of his purse, which was a healthy $200,000, coming in at the original $60,000. However, the California native was paid a $300,000 bonus for media-related events, such as press conferences and the like.

The fine likely was taken out of that large bonus.

While Diaz serves his suspension, he remains a retired fighter, as he announced his retirement following the UFC 143 loss. At 28 years of age, he is expected to return to fighting at some point following the suspension.
