Pearson, Sotiropoulos to coach TUF: The Smashes
The long-awaited announcement regarding the coaches for the next season of “The Ultimate Fighter” has been made.
UFC President Dana White told Ariel Helwani on FUEL TV following “UFC on FUEL 4” that George Sotiropoulos and Ross Pearson will be opposing coaches on “The Ultimate Fighter: Australia vs. U.K.”
The latest season airs later this year and has been titled “The Smashes,” referencing an old cricket rivalry between the two nations. Pearson, a British featherweight, will head an all-British squad, while Australian Sotiropoulos will coach a team of his fellow countrymen.
Pearson has a history when it comes to “The Ultimate Fighter,” as he won the lightweight tournament on “The Ultimate Fighter: U.S. vs. U.K.” After the win, he struggled at the 155 lb. mark, deciding to drop to featherweight.
He will return to lightweight in his bout against his coaching counterpart.
Sotiropoulos, though in the midst of a two-fight losing streak, is the biggest Australian star in the UFC. He last competed against Rafael dos Anjos, losing to the Brazilian via first round knockout.
