UFC 148 draws attendance of 15K for record-breaking live gate

UFC 148 drew 15,104 in attendance for a live gate of $6,901,655, falling just short of the originally reported $7 million.

Regardless, the 6.9 million figure officially set the record for the live gate of a mixed martial arts event in the United States.

The event took place on July 7 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada and was touted as the biggest card of the summer, as well as one of the biggest sporting events.

UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva met nemesis Chael Sonnen in the card’s highly-anticipated main event rematch, earning a second round technical knockout stoppage victory.

In total, just short of 90 percent of the 15,168 available tickets were sold, while an additional 1,498 were comped. By the night’s end, only 64 tickets were not purchased.
