Curran withdraws from Bellator 73 with injury
Bellator featherweight champion Pat Curran is injured and out of his Bellator 73 title fight against Patricio “Pitbull” Freire.
ESPN.com was first to report the injury and withdrawal.
At this time, it remains uncertain whether or not Freire will be given a replacement in order to stay on the card. According to MMAjunkie.com, the promotion has yet to make a decision on the matter.
Bellator 73 takes place on August 24 in Mississippi, and the featherweight title fight would have served as the evening’s headliner.
Curran earned the title this past spring against Joe Warren. He defeated the high-level wrestler via knockout.
Meanwhile, Freire won the season four featherweight tournament to earn his shot at the 145 lb. title.
