Poirier, Brookins fight at TUF 16 Finale
A featherweight bout between contenders Dustin Poirier and Jonathan Brookins is official for “The Ultimate Fighter 16 finale.”
The Ultimate Fighting Championship announced the bout over the weekend.
Brookins rejuvenated his career by earning the title of “The Ultimate Fighter” during the series’ twelfth season. However, following the win, he dropped to featherweight where he is 1-2.
He last competed against Charles Oliveira, losing to the Brazilian contender.
Meanwhile, Poirier finds himself looking for a comeback win for just the second time in his professional career. He last competed at “UFC on FUEL TV 2,” losing to Chan Sung Jung (The Korean Zombie) by submission in what was a terrific back-and-forth contest.
Prior to the loss, Poirier seemed primed to challenge Jose Aldo for the 145 lb. title.
“The Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale” takes place on December 15 in Las Vegas. The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino will host the card, including a main event between this season’s coaches, Shane Carwin and Roy Nelson.
