Vassell posted 22 points (8-14 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 3-4 FT), seven rebounds and four assists across 36 minutes during Sunday's 112-110 loss to Minnesota. After playing a reduced role to open the season due to injuries, the Spurs are suddenly giving Vassell expanded workloads to the delight of his fantasy managers -- he's averaging 34.4 minutes over his last four games. His production in previous games left a lot to be desired, but Sunday's performance could be a sign of things to come.

Drops 22 points in loss
Vassell posted 22 points (8-14 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 3-4 FT), seven rebounds and four assists across 36 minutes during Sunday's 112-110 loss to Minnesota. After playing a reduced role to open the season due to injuries, the Spurs are suddenly giving Vassell expanded workloads to the delight of his fantasy managers -- he's averaging 34.4 minutes over his last four games. His production in previous games left a lot to be desired, but Sunday's performance could be a sign of things to come.
Quiet in loss Wednesday
Vassell had 11 points (4-11 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT), three rebounds, five assists and one block over 36 minutes during Wednesday's 117-114 loss to the Knicks. Vassell delivered a somewhat quiet performance, continuing a modest run over the past couple of weeks. In that time, he has averaged 14.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, 0.7 steals and 1.8 three-pointers in 30.6 minutes per game. Although his production has left a little to be desired, the fact he is now starting and playing upwards of 30 minutes per night shouldn't be overlooked. As he continues to get his legs under him, his production should come around, perhaps sooner rather than later.
Scores 11 points Saturday
Vassell racked up 11 points (5-10 FG, 0-4 3Pt, 1-1 FT), four rebounds and two steals across 23 minutes during Saturday's 114-94 win over the Trail Blazers. Vassell was one of five Spurs who scored in double digits in this game, and the former FSU standout should remain one of the Spurs' primary options on offense, especially now that he's been starting. Vassell has shot a combined 14-for-26 from the field, including 5-for-11 from deep, in his first two starts of the campaign.
Pops for 23 in Thursday's start
Vassell logged 23 points (9-16 FG, 5-7 3Pt), four rebounds, two assists and two steals over 38 minutes during Thursday's 133-126 overtime win over the Hawks. Making his first start of the season, Vassell produced another strong performance while playing a season-high 38 minutes. The fifth-year wing has been a little inconsistent since returning from a knee injury in late November, but over his last eight appearances, he's scored in double digits six times while averaging 16.8 points, 2.8 boards, 2.6 threes, 2.3 assists and 1.3 steals while shooting 46.7 percent from beyond the arc. Julian Champagnie has been playing well in the starting five prior to coming off the bench Thursday, and it's not clear if Vassell's elevation from the second unit was a permanent switch or a matchup-based decision by interim coach Mitch Johnson.
Drawing first start of season
Vassell will start Thursday's game against the Hawks. Vassell isn't coming off a particularly inspiring performance, as he was held to four points over 25 minutes Sunday against the T-Wolves. However, he'll draw his first start of the 2024-25 campaign, bumping Julian Champagnie to a bench role.
Held to four points
Vassell accumulated four points (2-11 FG, 0-6 3Pt) over 25 minutes during Sunday's 106-92 loss to Minnesota. Vassell was held to single-digit points for the second time this season, with both of those coming over the past three outings. He's still been productive in December, however, posting averages of 16.2 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.0 steals and 2.3 three-pointers. He's doing that in just 26.7 minutes as well, so fantasy managers will be hoping his minutes trend up after the new year.
Pops for 23 off bench
Vassell ended with 23 points (9-16 FG, 4-7 3Pt, 1-4 FT), six rebounds and five assists in 30 minutes off the bench during Friday's 118-116 win over the Trail Blazers. The fifth-year guard was the only Spur on the second unit to score more than eight points. Vassell has made only 10 appearances so far this season due to a variety of injuries, but he's been productive of late, scoring at least 14 points in five of his last six contests while averaging 17.8 points, 3.0 boards, 2.7 assists, 2.7 threes and 1.3 steals while shooting 52.6 percent from the floor and an impressive 50.0 percent (16-for-32) from long distance.
Struggles with shot
Vassell totaled seven points (3-11 FG, 0-4 3Pt, 1-1 FT), four rebounds, four assists and one block across 28 minutes during Sunday's 121-116 win over the Pelicans. For the first time this campaign, Vassell was held to single-digit points. Although his workloads have been low with the franchise being super cautious with the guard, he's still been productive for the most part. Through nine appearances, he's averaging 16.6 points, 1.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.1 steals and 2.4 three-pointers.
Not on injury report
Vassell (foot) is not on the injury report for Sunday's game against the Pelicans. Vassell didn't play in the 140-113 loss against the Kings on Friday due to injury management, but he should be ready to handle his regular workload off the bench Sunday. Vassell has played off the bench in each of his eight appearances this season, averaging 17.8 points, 2.6 assists, 1.6 rebounds and 1.3 steals across 23.5 minutes per contest.
