Evan Fournier Latest News
Finalizing a deal overseas
Fournier and Olympiacos have agreed to a three-year contract, Eurohoops reports. After 12 seasons in the NBA, Fournier is headed overseas where he will become a featured player for Olympiacos. In 704 career regular-season games, Fournier posted averages of 13.6 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.9 three-pointers while shooting 44.1 percent from the field.
Scores 10 points in loss to Germany
Fournier had 10 points (2-5 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 4-4 FT), one rebound and one assist in Friday's 85-71 loss to Germany. Fournier was one of three France players who scored in double digits in this loss, alongside Victor Wembanyama and Isaia Cordinier. Even though the final stat line wasn't exactly eye-popping, it's worth noting Fournier should remain one of France's most reliable offensive weapons in the knockout stages. A strong showing in the Olympics could entice an NBA team to take a gamble on Fournier before the start of training camp.
Team declines option
The Pistons have declined to pick up Fournier's $19 million team option, James L. Edwards III of The Athletic reports. This was the expected move, as Fournier was not expected to be a part of Pistons' future plans at his price tag. The veteran wing was on the outside looking in on the Knicks' rotation last season before being dealt to Detroit prior to the deadline. He then averaged 7.2 points, 1.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.1 triples across 18.7 minutes in 29 games with the team. It remains to be seen what type of opportunities will come his way in free agency.
Season-high 21 points vs. Philly
Fournier finished with 21 points (7-11 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 4-4 FT), three rebounds, two blocks and one steal over 26 minutes during Tuesday's 120-102 loss to the 76ers. Fournier returned from a one-game absence due to a right sore knee. He led the bench in scoring Tuesday, and he finished behind Jaden Ivey in that category. Fournier's 21 points marked a season high for the 12-year veteran, and his playing time has waxed and waned since joining the Pistons at the trade deadline. He could see more action for Thursday's game against the Bulls if Cade Cunningham (knee) continues to miss time.
Available for Tuesday
Fournier (knee) is available for Tuesday's game against the 76ers. Fournier was previously considered probable due to right knee soreness. In 25 appearances for Detroit, Fournier has averaged 6.5 points, 1.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.1 three-pointers in 17.7 minutes.
Probable for Tuesday's game
Fournier (knee) is probable for Tuesday's game against the 76ers. Fournier missed Saturday's game against the Nets due to a sore right knee, but he'll likely be back in action a few days later. Over his last 10 appearances, he's averaged 4.6 points in 19.0 minutes per game.
Ruled out Saturday
Fournier won't play in Saturday's game in Brooklyn due to right knee soreness. After logging double-digit minutes in 11 straight games, Fournier played just three minutes in Friday's 108-90 loss to the Grizzlies, so the knee injury could explain the light workload. With Fournier out for the second leg of the back-to-back set, Jared Rhoden will likely be included in the rotation as a backup forward behind Tosan Evbuomwan and Troy Brown.
Poor shooting in loss
Fournier accumulated five points (2-8 FG, 1-5 3Pt), four assists, three rebounds, one block and one steal over 29 minutes during Monday's 110-108 loss to the Grizzlies. This season has been extremely forgettable for the 31-year-old, who appeared in only three contests for the Knicks before being traded to Detroit on Feb. 8. Since the trade, Fournier has averaged 7.1 points on 36.5 percent shooting in 18.7 minutes. Expect Fournier to receive less playing time moving forward as Marcus Sasser (illness) and Simone Fontecchio (toe) look to return.
Leads team in scoring Sunday
Fournier had a team-high 18 points (6-14 FG, 4-8 3Pt, 2-3 FT), four rebounds, one assist and three steals across 31 minutes off the bench during Sunday's 104-101 loss to Miami. All five Detroit starters scored in double digits, but none topped Fournier's 18 points. It was the 31-year-old's best scoring performance since coming over from the Knicks, and the first time he played more than 30 minutes as Ausar Thompson (illness) missed his fourth straight game and Quentin Grimes (knee) missed his second straight. There's no real role for Fournier on a rebuilding Pistons roster when the younger wing options are healthy, but he might have some short-term DFS appeal.
