VanVleet accumulated 21 points (10-11 FG, 1-2 3Pt), seven rebounds, 10 assists and two steals in 25 minutes during Wednesday's 127-100 victory over the Spurs. VanVleet delivered his best game of the season Monday, setting up season-high marks in points, rebounds and assists while ending just three boards shy of a triple-double. With Alperen Sengun and Jalen Green entrenched as the Rockets' go-to options on offense, VanVleet's upside has reduced a little. However, he remains a solid contributor across all formats due to the impact he can make on both ends of the court. VanVleet is averaging 14.3 points, 6.1 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game across his first eight outings.

Fred VanVleet Latest News
Sniffs triple-double in win
Bounces back in win
VanVleet ended Monday's 109-97 victory over New York with 19 points (8-13 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 2-2 FT), five assists, two rebounds, two steals and one block over 36 minutes. VanVleet ended as the club's second-leading scorer behind Alperen Sengun (25) in the win. After a three-game span in which the 30-year-old shot 20.5 percent from the field, he produced a bounce-back outing with an efficient game. VanVleet's offensive production has been limited thus far, and he has averaged 13.3 points, 5.6 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 1.6 steals across 37.6 minutes per game in seven regular-season outings. However, he remains a crucial part of the Rockets' frontcourt and has racked up two-plus steals in four outings.
Struggles from floor Thursday
VanVleet had four points (2-13 FG, 0-7 3Pt), five rebounds and four assists in 39 minutes during Thursday's 108-102 win over Dallas. VanVleet's four-point performance Thursday was his lowest scoring output since January 29 of the 2023-24 regular season against the Lakers (three). He's averaging just 12.6 points per game on 30.3 percent shooting to start the 2024-25 campaign, and while he's taken a back seat to Jalen Green and Alperen Sengun on offense, VanVleet will still be the Rockets' floor general and provide fantasy value in assists.
Scores 18 with seven dimes
VanVleet finished with 18 points (5-12 FG, 4-10 3Pt, 4-4 FT), two rebounds, seven assists and three steals over 39 minutes during Saturday's 109-106 loss to the Spurs. VanVleet finished just three assists away from recording a double-double in this loss to San Antonio. Even though he has settled into the role of being the Rockets' third-best offensive option behind Jalen Green and Alperen Sengun, VanVleet shouldn't have problems remaining a consistent fantasy producer who should deliver around 15 points and six assists on a steady basis.
Scores 15, dishes out five dimes
VanVleet delivered 15 points (5-12 FG, 3-9 3Pt, 2-2 FT), a rebound, five assists and a steal across 28 minutes in Thursday's 129-107 preseason win over the Spurs. Jalen Green and Alperen Sengun led the way for the Rockets in this one after combining for 51 points, but VanVleet can't be overlooked as one of the team's main offensive threats as well. The veteran floor general will be the one in charge of running the show in his second year with the Rockets, and he averaged 17.4 points with a career-best 8.1 assists per game in 2023-24.
Suiting up against New Orleans
VanVleet (rest) is available for Tuesday's preseason game versus the Pelicans, Jackson Gatlin of the Locked On Podcast Network reports. VanVleet will return to action Tuesday after sitting out Houston's previous contest for rest purposes. The 30-year-old guard's return will likely send Amen Thompson to the bench.
Won't play Wednesday
VanVleet (rest) will not play in Wednesday's preseason game versus Oklahoma City, Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle reports. VanVleet will be replaced by Amen Thompson in the starting lineup Wednesday. VanVleet's next opportunity for preseason reps comes against the Pelicans on Tuesday.
Cleared for training camp
VanVleet, who missed the final two games of the 2023-24 season with a hip injury, is set to be a full participant to begin Houston's training camp next Tuesday, Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle reports. The Rockets were likely being cautious with VanVleet during that portion of their season, so the veteran's status wasn't in any real doubt heading into camp. For what it's worth, the entire Houston roster has been scrimmaging with contact since last week, so the Rockets should hit the ground running when camp begins.
Won't play Sunday
VanVleet (hip) will not play Sunday against the Clippers. VanVleet will end up sitting for the second time in a row to end the regular season. His debut campaign with the Rockets was a success, as he averaged a career-high 8.1 assists to go with 17.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 3.1 three-pointers.
