Gabe Vincent Latest News
Good to go for training camp
General manager Rob Pelinka said Wednesday that Vincent (knee) is medically cleared to begin training camp, Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com reports. After carving out a role for himself in Miami, Vincent joined the Lakers last offseason and was expected to be a key rotational piece. However, injuries derailed that plan, as the undrafted guard out of UC Santa Barbara made only 11 regular-season appearances due to a lingering knee issue. While Vincent is healthy again, he'll have to compete for playing time with fellow backups Bronny James, Max Christie and Jalen Hood-Schifino.
Absent from injury report
Vincent (knee) isn't listed on the Lakers' injury report ahead of Tuesday's game against the Warriors, Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com reports. Vincent missed Sunday's matchup versus Minnesota due to left knee injury recovery, but he should be available off the bench for Tuesday's game. He's appeared in three contests this season, logging 14 minutes in each appearance.
Unavailable Sunday
Vincent has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Timberwolves, Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports. After missing nearly the entire season due to an ankle injury, Vincent has appeared in three of the last four games. He will take a seat for the second half of the Lakers' back-to-back set Sunday but should return to action Tuesday versus Golden State.
Will be available Wednesday
Vincent (knee) will be available for Wednesday's game against the Wizards, Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports. Vincent returned to action Sunday and played 14 minutes against the Nets but was held out Tuesday against Toronto for the first leg of a back-to-back set. Vincent will likely see limited minutes Wednesday as the Lakers ramp him up ahead of the playoffs.
Ruled out for Tuesday
Vincent (knee) has been ruled out for Tuesday's game against the Raptors, Mike Trudell of Spectrum SportsNet reports. Vincent returned to the court Sunday against Brooklyn and tallied two points, a rebound, an assist and a steal in 14 minutes following his lengthy absence. However, since he's missed most of the season, the 27-year-old will likely focus on conditioning over the final few weeks of the regular season in hopes that he's ready for a potential playoff run.
Gets 14 minutes in return
Vincent (knee) recorded two points (1-4 FG, 0-2 3Pt), one rebound, one assist and one steal across 14 minutes Sunday in the Lakers' 116-104 win over the Nets. Playing for the first time since Dec. 20 and making just his sixth appearance of the season, Vincent settled into a modest role off the bench, filling the rotation spot that had previously belonged to either Max Christie (three minutes) or Cam Reddish (two minutes). Vincent didn't light up the box score and is unlikely to gain fantasy relevance over the final two weeks of the regular season unless the Lakers opt to hold out players such as LeBron James, D'Angelo Russell and Austin Reaves for rest or minor injuries. Vincent could, however, see a slight uptick in minutes if the Lakers feel he's a better fit on the second unit than Spencer Dinwiddie.
Officially available Sunday
Vincent (knee) has been cleared to play in Sunday's game against Brooklyn, Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com reports. Vincent has appeared in just one game since Oct. 30, missing 46 straight games due to a knee effusion that ultimately transpired to arthroscopic surgery on his left knee. Vincent had been targeting a return in late March, and the 27-year-old will meet his goal in the nick of time. Addressing his return Sunday, Vincent said "I wouldn't step on that court if I didn't feel like I could help my team win games." He proceeded to acknowledged that his role and minutes are not for him to decide, but he clearly appears to be confident in his health. It will be interesting to monitor if Vincent's shooting and ability to initiate offense shake off enough rust to carve out a sizable role down the stretch.
Upgraded to questionable
Vincent (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game versus the Nets, Mike Trudell of Spectrum SportsNet reports. Vincent has missed the Lakers' last 46 games with a left knee injury but could return to action Sunday. If the 27-year-old guard is upgraded to available, he will likely compete for backup minutes in the team's guard rotation with Spencer Dinwiddie and Max Christie.
Eyeing Sunday return
Vincent (knee) is set to join the Lakers for the start of their four-game road trip that begins Friday in Indiana and is expected to make his return to action Sunday in Brooklyn, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. Though Vincent looks like he'll remain out Friday, barring a setback leading up to Sunday's morning shootaround, he'll be available to play later that day against the Nets for what would be his first appearance since Dec. 20. After signing a three-year, $33 million deal with the Lakers over the summer, Vincent has thus far been limited to just five appearances after his season debut was delayed while he recovered from a left knee effusion. The knee issue then cropped up again in December, prompting Vincent to undergo arthroscopic surgery to provide a longer-term fix for the issue. Vincent will likely claim a spot in the rotation once healthy, though he could be in store for only a light role behind backcourt starters D'Angelo Russell and Austin Reaves.
