Isaiah Stewart Latest News
Coming off bench
Stewart will not start Sunday's game against the Wizards. Stewart was listed in the starting lineup ahead of Sunday's game, but the released starting lineup seems to have been an error as it has been confirmed Jalen Duren will get the start. Stewart is averaging 8.3 points and 6.7 rebounds in 20.3 minutes per games over his last three contests off the bench.
Will start Sunday
Stewart will enter the starting lineup in Sunday's game against the Wizards, Omari Sankofa II of the Detroit Free Press reports. In his third start of the 2024-25 campaign, Stewart will replace Jalen Duren in the starting five. Stewart has played significant minutes while mainly coming off the bench this season, averaging 6.1 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.9 assists across 22.0 minutes per game in 14 regular-season appearances (two starts).
Ejected after Flagrant 2
Stewart has been ejected from Wednesday's game against the Bucks after being issued a Flagrant 2 foul. He finishes the contest with nine points (4-6 FG, 1-1 3Pt), three rebounds and a block across 14 minutes off the bench. Stewart pulled down on Giannis Antetokounmpo's jersey as Antetokounmpo went up for a dunk and was given a Flagrant 2 penalty, ending his night prematurely. While Stewart is sidelined, expect Paul Reed to see more action. Assuming he isn't handed further punishment from the NBA, Stewart will be back on the hardwood Friday at Toronto.
Upgraded to available
Stewart (ankle) is available for Tuesday's game against the Heat. As expected, Stewart has been upgraded from probable to available. However, Jalen Duren (ankle) is cleared to return following a two-game absence, so Stewart will revert to a reserve role. In nine games off the bench this season, Stewart has averaged 3.9 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.3 blocks in 20.1 minutes per game.
Dealing with minor ankle sprain
Stewart is listed as probable for Tuesday's game against the Heat due to a right ankle sprain. Stewart has started at center in the Pistons' last two games due to Jalen Duren (ankle) being sidelined. Over that span, Stewart has averaged 13.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 blocks in 33.0 minutes per contest. Duren is listed as questionable for Tuesday's contest, but if he does not return, Stewart should draw a third consecutive start, assuming he can play through his minor ankle injury.
Produces 16 points in loss
Stewart ended with 16 points (7-9 FG, 2-2 FT), eight rebounds, one assist, two blocks and one steal across 33 minutes during Sunday's 101-99 loss to the Rockets. Jalen Duren missed Sunday's game due to a left ankle sprain, allowing Stewart to make a second straight start. While his overall stat appeal on the defensive end has been low in the past, Stewart is currently averaging 1.4 blocks and 0.5 steals in 22.5 minutes through 11 games. It remains to be seen when Duren will return to action, but until he does, Stewart figures to be the primary beneficiary.
Starting at center sans Duren
Stewart will start Friday's game against the Hawks, Lauren L. Williams of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. With Jalen Duren (ankle) sidelined, Stewart will make his first start of the season. It's been a rough start statically for Stewart, who's averaging 3.9 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.3 blocks and 0.6 steals in 20.1 minutes per game off the bench this season. However, he's proven he can rack up stats quickly when handed an expanded role.
Starts second half Wednesday
Stewart ended with six points (3-6 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 0-2 FT), seven rebounds, six assists and one block over 26 minutes during Wednesday's 108-107 loss to the Hornets. Stewart started the second half after Jalen Duren exited the game after just eight minutes due to an ankle injury. If Duren happens to miss any time as a result of the injury, Stewart could find himself in the starting lineup. Although his overall skill set is somewhat limited, he would be someone to consider in fantasy for managers looking for rebounds and blocks.
Strong performance in win
Stewart finished with seven points (1-3 FG, 5-5 FT), 11 rebounds, three assists, three blocks and one steal over 34 minutes during Wednesday's 105-95 win over Philadelphia. Stewart had his best outing of the season, playing 34 minutes as a result of Jalen Duren fouling out in just 11 minutes. Playing as the backup center, Stewart has been underwhelming in both fantasy and reality. While this was reminiscent of what he can do when afforded meaningful minutes, he simply won't play enough on a regular basis to be considered a viable asset.
