Gortman will come off the bench in Thursday's preseason game against the Bucks. Gortman drew an opportunity to start at point guard in Monday's exhibition against the Clippers, but he'll return to a reserve role as the Mavs will roll out the usual starts Thursday evening.

Gortman put up six points off the bench during Thursday's exhibition, and he'll now get a chance to show what he can do as the team's starting point guard Monday. Gortman has flashed promise so far in the preseason, as he dropped 19 points off the bench in the opener against Memphis.
Gortman finished Monday's 121-116 loss to the Grizzlies with 19 points (7-13 FG, 4-7 3Pt, 1-1 FT), three rebounds, three assists and four steals over 25 minutes. Gortman led the Mavericks in steals Monday, and he finished the game as the team's second-leading scorer behind Jaden Hardy (21). Gortman signed an Exhibit 10 contract with Dallas in July, and the 21-year-old is attempting to earn a permanent spot on the Mavericks' roster by the end of the preseason.
