Waived by Phoenix
The Suns waived Diakite on Monday, Doug Haller of The Athletic reports. The Suns also waived Moses Wood, bringing their roster down to 18 players. Diakite was previously on an Exhibit 10 deal and could end up with the Valley Suns in the G League.
Signs Exhibit 10 pact
The Suns signed Diakite to an Exhibit 10 contract Friday, Michael Scotto of USA Today reports. The Suns' G League affiliate, the Valley Suns, recently acquired the returning player rights to Diakite, and he will likely compete for a two-way spot with the Suns on a non-guaranteed training camp deal. The 27-year-old has spent four seasons bouncing around the league on two-way contracts, during which he has averaged 3.0 points and 2.3 rebounds across 9.2 minutes in 55 total regular-season appearances. Diakite will reunite with coach Mike Budenholzer, his coach while he was on the 2021 Bucks championship roster on a two-way deal.
Waived by Memphis
The Grizzlies waived Diakite on Tuesday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. The Grizzlies acquired Diakite from the Nets this offseason in exchange for Ziaire Williams, but the former obviously wasn't in Memphis' long-term plans. By releasing Diakite, the Grizzlies get off his $2.2 million contract and open up a 15th roster slot.
Shipped to Memphis
The Nets traded Diakite to the Grizzlies in exchange for Ziaire Williams (back/hip), a 2030 second-round pick and the draft rights to Nemanja Dangubic on Friday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports. Diakite will change addresses for the second time this offseason, as he was previously traded to the Nets on July 6 as part of the deal that sent Mikal Bridges to the Knicks. The 27-year-old big man made just six NBA appearances in 2023-24 for the Knicks and Spurs, averaging 2.0 points in 4.0 minutes. After ultimately landing in Memphis, Diakite will likely operate as a deep reserve and likely won't be included in the Grizzlies rotation most nights.
Re-signs with New York
Diakite signed a contract with the Knicks on Monday, Diakite's 10-day contract with the Knicks expired Sunday, but he re-signed with the club one day later. Isaiah Hartenstein, Jericho Sims and Precious Achiuwa are all ahead of Diakite on the depth chart, and Mitchell Robinson (ankle) is nearing a return, so Diakite isn't expected to garner a major role.
Deal with New York expires
Diakite became a free agent Sunday after his 10-day contract with the Knicks expired, Keith Smith of Spotrac.com reports. Diakite didn't appear in any games for the Knicks over the course of his 10-day deal. With Isaiah Hartenstein, Jericho Sims and Precious Achiuwa all ahead of him in the pecking order in the frontcourt and with Mitchell Robinson (ankle) believed to be close to a return, the Knicks might not have much of a need to keep Diakite around as a depth option.
Gets 10-day from New York
Diakite signed a 10-day contract with New York on Thursday, Fred Katz of The Athletic reports. Diakite compiled 12 points across 16 minutes in three appearances with San Antonio in January, and he'll get a second NBA opportunity with the Knicks. Prior to his brief Spurs tenure, Diakite played a consistent role for New York's G League affiliate, producing 0.929 points off 9.2 possessions per game through 23 appearances, which ranked in the 60th percentile among all G League players. He profiles as end-of-bench jumbo-wing and forward depth.
