Reverts to second unit Tuesday
Kleber is coming off the bench in Tuesday's game against the Lakers. The Mavericks will opt to deploy a smaller starting lineup Tuesday after going with a big first unit against Memphis' towering frontcort Monday. Spencer Dinwiddie will take Kleber's spot in the first unit against the Lakers. Over 20 games as a reserve in 2024-25, Kleber has averaged 3.1 rebounds, 2.5 points and 0.8 assists in 18.9 minutes, so he's not worthy of much fantasy attention.
Will start Monday
Kleber will start in Monday's game against the Grizzlies, Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com reports. Kleber and Naji Marshall will supplant Spencer Dinwiddie and Quentin Grimes in the starting five Monday, as the Mavericks will go without a traditional point guard in the first unit. Kleber has started in three games thus far, during which he has averaged 1.7 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists across 20.7 minutes per contest.
Cleared to play against Cleveland
Kleber (oblique) has been cleared to play against the Cavaliers, Grant Afseth of Sportskeeda. Kleber is available to help the Mavericks on Friday as the team takes on the Cavaliers in Dallas. He has had some rough performances lately, scoring only five points combined over the last three games after dropping 15 points against the Suns last Saturday.
Questionable for Friday
Kleber is listed as questionable for Friday's game against the Cavaliers. Kleber is in jeopardy of missing his first game in over two weeks due to the oblique injury. If the big man is sidelined, Olivier-Maxence Prosper and Dwight Powell are candidates for a slight bump in minutes.
Starting Saturday
Kleber is in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Trail Blazers, Mike Curtis of The Dallas Morning News reports. The Mavericks will be without Dereck Lively (hip), P.J. Washington (suspension) and Naji Marshall (suspension), so the lack of depth in the frontcourt will translate to Kleber getting the start. Kleber will be making his first start since Nov. 16.
Season-high 15 points Friday
Kleber posted 15 points (5-7 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 4-4 FT), seven rebounds, two assists and one steal in 26 minutes off the bench during Friday's 98-89 win over the Suns. With Dereck Lively (hip) unavailable, Kleber stepped into a bigger role and delivered a season scoring high while tying his season high in rebounds. The veteran center had managed just nine total points in his prior four contests however, and with Lively not expected to be sidelined for long, Kleber's surge of fantasy relevance is likely to be brief.
Limited production in light minutes
Kleber (rib) tallied zero points (0-1 FG) and two rebounds in 13 minutes in Thursday's 118-95 loss to the Clippers. Kleber had missed the Mavericks' previous three games with a fractured rib and an illness, but he was given the green light to play Thursday after putting in a full practice earlier this week. The 32-year-old has logged fewer than 20 minutes in each of his last three appearances and will likely struggle to see meaningful playing time so long as Dereck Lively, Daniel Gafford and PJ Washington are all available in the frontcourt.
Off injury report
Kleber (rib) isn't listed on the Mavericks' injury report ahead of Thursday's game against the Clippers. Kleber had missed three straight games due to an illness and a fractured rib, but he's been given the green light to suit up after practicing Tuesday. Kleber is averaging 1.7 points and 3.0 rebounds across 17.0 minutes per game this season.
Takes part in practice
Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd said that Kleber (rib) practiced Tuesday, Mike Curtis of The Dallas Morning News reports. Kleber has missed the Mavericks' last three games, with his absence initially attributed to an illness before Dallas also listed him with a fractured rib as of Saturday. However, Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com noted that Kleber took part in conditioning work Sunday before he was involved in practice Tuesday, so perhaps his rib injury isn't as significant as it sounds. The extent of Kleber's participation in practice Tuesday isn't known, and if he ended up being limited, he could still remain out for Dallas' next game Thursday versus the Clippers.
