Olivari (ankle) is available to play Tuesday against the Suns. Olivari has yet to make an appearance at the NBA level this season, so he's not guaranteed to see the floor Tuesday.
Olivari is out of Saturday's game against the Nuggets due to a right ankle sprain, Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com reports. Olivari is not expected to see many minutes at the NBA level, and this injury will complicate his prospects of playing even further. His next chance to suit up will come against the Suns on Tuesday, but even if he's deemed available to return, he is unlikely to have a steady role off the bench.
The Lakers converted Olivari's contract to a two-way deal Saturday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports. Olivari was signed to an Exhibit 10 contract earlier this offseason and scored 22 points in the Lakers' preseason finale. He will now split time between the NBA and G League in 2024-25.
Olivari scored 22 points (8-16 FG, 5-9 3Pt, 1-1 FT) while adding seven rebounds and two assists in 39 minutes during Friday's 132-74 preseason loss to the Warriors. The Lakers sat almost all of their rotation regulars for their preseason finale, leaving big minutes for fringe players like Olivari to make one last good impression on the coaching staff. The undrafted rookie out of Xavier will likely begin his pro career in the G League.
Olivari will get the start in Los Angeles' preseason finale versus the Warriors on Friday, Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com reports. Olivari is competing for a depth role with the club, but he projects as a G League contributor. The Lakers are resting all of their regular starters in this exhibition contest, so the Rice product will have an opportunity to shine.
