Logs seven minutes Wednesday
Council notched two points (1-2 FG, 0-1 3Pt) and one rebound in seven minutes during Wednesday's 105-95 loss to Detroit. Council saw limited run again Wednesday, breaking into the rotation for the third time this season. In fact, the only game in which he didn't play was their solitary win against the Pacers. Given he is typically being utilized in games that are non-competitive, Council's fantasy outlook is relatively bleak.
Not starting Monday
Council won't start Monday's preseason game against the Hawks. Council drew a spot start Saturday against Boston, which was the second night of a back-to-back set. He's competing for a rotational role during his second season in Philadelphia.
Starting Saturday
Council will enter the starting five in Saturday's preseason game against the Celtics. Coach Nick Nurse said Saturday that the 76ers will rest their vets on the second day of a back-to-back road trip, according to Celtics beat reporter Bobby Krivitsky. This will allow Nurse to get a better look at his second unit with Council, KJ Martin, Jared McCain, Jeff Dowtin and Guerschon Yabusele all starting.
Erupts for 29 points
Council had 29 points (9-18 FG, 5-10 3Pt, 6-7 FT), eight rebounds, one assist and one block in 28 minutes during Monday's 102-92 win over the Thunder in the Salt Lake City Summer League. After starting the game 0-for-4 from deep, Council scored 19 of his 29 points in the fourth quarter to secure the victory, displaying plenty of confidence in his shooting ability. This is a nice start to Summer League for Council, and he'll need to do more of the same going forward to have a chance to earn consistent playing time within the Sixers' rotation.
Inks multi-year deal
The 76ers are converting Council's two-way deal to a four-year, $7.4 million NBA contract Saturday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. As a two-way player, Council has split time between the NBA and G League this season. For the 76ers, the 22-year-old guard is averaging 5.5 points and 1.4 rebounds in 9.1 minutes across 31 appearances. Council is now set to remain with Philadelphia for the remainder of 2023-24 and the next three seasons.
Efficient in loss to Boston
Council ended with 16 points (6-8 FG, 4-4 FT), four rebounds and one assist over 19 minutes during Tuesday's 117-99 loss to Boston. Council has been finding ways to make his presence felt off the bench for the Sixers, and on a team that's in dire need of a second-unit scoring punch, his contributions have been well-received. Council has scored in double digits in four of his last nine appearances, and while he can't be trusted for sustained numbers due to the nature of his role, he's making a case to see more minutes in the short-term picture.
