McCain produced 34 points (12-26 FG, 6-13 3Pt, 4-4 FT), two rebounds, 10 assists and two steals over 38 minutes during Wednesday's 114-106 loss to Cleveland. McCain continues to dominate on the offensive end, casually landing a career-high 34 points, while chipping in double-digit assists for the first time. The 76ers were without their three key pieces, affording McCain a ton of playing time. He has scored at least 23 points in three straight games and although this run will likely come to an abrupt end at some point, he is someone to monitor moving forward.

Explodes for career-high 34 points
McCain produced 34 points (12-26 FG, 6-13 3Pt, 4-4 FT), two rebounds, 10 assists and two steals over 38 minutes during Wednesday's 114-106 loss to Cleveland. McCain continues to dominate on the offensive end, casually landing a career-high 34 points, while chipping in double-digit assists for the first time. The 76ers were without their three key pieces, affording McCain a ton of playing time. He has scored at least 23 points in three straight games and although this run will likely come to an abrupt end at some point, he is someone to monitor moving forward.
Earns first career start
McCain is part of the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cavaliers. McCain has received at least 30 minutes in three straight games and averaged 22.7 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists on 45.1 percent shooting from the field. With Paul George (knee) sidelined Wednesday, the 76ers will reward McCain's recent success and give him a spot in the first unit. He'll slot in alongside Kyle Lowry in the backcourt.
Big night off bench
McCain posted 23 points (7-16 FG, 4-10 3Pt, 5-5 FT), three rebounds and two assists in 30 minutes off the bench during Tuesday's 111-99 loss to the Knicks. The 16th overall pick in the 2024 Draft topped 20 points for the second straight game while draining at least three three-pointers for the third consecutive contest. McCain has quickly earned a significant role on the Sixers' second unit, and through six games in November, he's averaging 15.8 points, 2.3 threes, 2.2 boards and 1.7 assists in 20.7 minutes a contest.
Stays hot in career-best showcase
McCain totaled 27 points (10-18 FG, 3-8 3Pt, 4-4 FT), three rebounds and two assists across 31 minutes during Sunday's 107-105 overtime victory over the Hornets. McCain continued his recent hot stretch and strong start to his rookie campaign on Sunday by posting his best outing of his young career. McCain led all Philadelphia players in scoring and threes made, concluding with his first 20-point game of the year and three points shy of the 30-point mark. McCain has tallied at least 18 points in three outings this season, including in two straight games. He has also connected on at least three threes in two consecutive contests.
Drops team-high 18 in loss
McCain logged a team-high 18 points (6-17 FG, 4-9 3Pt, 2-2 FT) to go with two assists, one rebound and one steal in 31 minutes off the bench during Friday's 116-106 loss to the Lakers. No 76ers player reached 20 points on the night as Joel Embiid (knee/suspension) and Tyrese Maxey (hamstring) were both sidelined, and Paul George remained on a minutes restriction. McCain's production and court time have been erratic to begin his NBA career, but the 16th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft has scored in double digits in three of the last five contests, averaging 11.4 points, 2.0 boards, 1.8 assists, 1.4 three-pointers and 0.6 steals in 17.0 minutes a game during that stretch.
Lands career-high 19 points
McCain logged 19 points (8-16 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 1-1 FT), four rebounds, one assist and one steal over 17 minutes during Saturday's 124-107 loss to the Grizzlies. McCain continued his recent form, scoring a career-high 19 points despite the loss. His role has increased since opening night and he is now firmly ahead of Reggie Jackson in the rotation. Eric Gordon is also struggling to get anything going, leaving McCain as the primary beneficiary. His playing time is worth monitoring, at least until the 76ers gets their two superstars back on the floor.
Cleared to play Wednesday
McCain (chest) isn't on the injury report for Wednesday's game versus the Bucks. McCain is set to suit up for Philadelphia's regular-season opener despite suffering a pulmonary contusion during the preseason. The rookie guard will likely compete for bench minutes in the team's backcourt rotation.
Limited again Monday
McCain (bruise) was a partial participant at Monday's practice, Kyle Neubeck of AllPHLY.com reports. McCain did everything except the final scrimmage, so this is essentially the same update reported after Sunday's practice. It sounds like McCain could be ready for Opening Night on Wednesday against the Bucks, but more clarity won't be known until the 76ers release their injury report Tuesday.
Participating in drills Sunday
McCain (bruised lungs) took part in drills during Sunday's practice but will not participate in the club's scrimmage, Adam Aaronson of PhillyVoice.com reports. Philadelphia has been working back its 2024 first-round pick after a hard fall during Wednesday's preseason game against the Nets. McCain was sent to the hospital due to the fall, but he has showed signs of improvements while participating in on-court activities and drills. While the 20-year-old won't suit up for the team's scrimmage, his participation in drills bodes well for a potential return during the 76ers' regular-season opener against the Bucks on Wednesday.
