Will remain sidelined Monday
Aldama (ankle) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Mavericks, Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com reports. Aldama sprained his left ankle in late December and is considered week-to-week with the injury. Monday will be his sixth game missed due to the injury, and his next opportunity to play will be Thursday against the Rockets.
Deemed week-to-week
The Grizzlies announced Saturday that Aldama has been diagnosed with a left ankle sprain and is considered week-to-week. Aldama suffered his ankle injury against the Raptors on Thursday and is set to miss at least another week of action. In Aldama's absence, Jake LaRavia, Brandon Clarke and Jaylen Wells are candidates to receive increased playing time.
Won't play Friday
Aldama (ankle) is out for Friday's game versus the Pelicans. Aldama will miss Friday's contest after leaving Memphis' previous outing against Toronto early due to a left ankle sprain. Jake LaRavia and Brandon Clarke are candidates to receive increased playing time in his absence. Aldama's next chance to suit up is Sunday's matchup with the Thunder.
Leaves early with ankle injury
Aldama left Thursday's game against the Raptors due to a left ankle injury and didn't return. He finished with three points (2-3 FG) and three rebounds over three minutes. Aldama was helped back to the locker room during the first quarter of Thursday's contest, and he was unable to put much weight on his left ankle. The 23-year-old will likely undergo further testing to determine the extent of his injury. Jake LaRavia and Luke Kennard could see an uptick in opportunities if Aldama is forced to miss additional time. His status for Friday's game against the Pelicans has yet to be determined.
Heads to locker room Thursday
Aldama was helped back to the locker room during the first quarter of Thursday's game against against the Raptors with an apparent left ankle injury, Damichael Cole of The Memphis Commercial Appeal reports. Aldama was unable to put much weight on his left ankle after going down in the opening quarter, during which he contributed four points (2-3 FG) and three rebounds across three minutes. If the 23-year-old is unable to come back, Jake LaRavia and Luke Kennard will likely see increased roles the rest of the way.
Double-double in Thursday's rout
Aldama finished Thursday's 144-93 victory over Golden State with a team-high 21 points (8-16 FG, 5-10 3Pt), 14 rebounds, four assists, one block and two steals in 25 minutes off the bench. It's the eighth double-double of the season for Aldama, and the fourth-year big led the Grizzlies in scoring and rebounding on the night while tying his season high in made three-pointers. He's been impressive over the last month since moving back to the bench, and across the last 14 games, he's averaging 15.1 points, 8.1 boards, 2.6 assists, 2.4 threes and 0.9 steals while shooting 57.0 percent from the floor and a stunning 55.0 percent from beyond the arc.
Steps up from bench with 19 points
Aldama totaled 19 points (7-11 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 2-3 FT), seven rebounds, five assists, three blocks and one steal in 20 minutes during Sunday's 140-112 victory over the Wizards. Aldama lost his spot in the starting lineup upon Desmond Bane's return to action, but he continues to make a case for more playing time with excellent second-unit totals. He inflicted his multi-category damage in only 20 minutes, and we've already seen Aldama's upside while logging more time with the first unit. His recent performances warrant fantasy consideration in deeper formats despite his spot in the rotation.
Posts double-double off bench
Aldama supplied 15 points (6-8 FG, 3-3 3Pt, 0-1 FT), 10 rebounds and three steals in 29 minutes during Thursday's 115-110 win over Sacramento. Even though Aldama has returned to a bench role as the Grizzlies have been getting healthier, he continues to find ways to remain relevant in most fantasy formats. This was his fourth double-double across his last nine bench appearances, a span in which he's averaging 15.2 points, 8.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists across 26.6 minutes per contest. With Zach Edey (ankle) out for at least another week, Aldama should have a consistent role in Memphis' frontcourt.
Notches 15 points in win
Aldama closed with 15 points (6-9 FG, 3-5 3Pt), four rebounds, six assists and one steal over 25 minutes during Sunday's 136-121 win over the Pacers. Aldama continues to shine for Memphis, and it will be interesting to see what the frontcourt rotation looks like when Zach Edey (ankle) returns, possibly as soon as Tuesday. Over his last seven games, Aldama has produced impressive averages of 15.3 points, 8.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.1 three-pointers.
