Felix Baumgartner Road Rage: Guilty of Punching Truck Driver in the Face

The man who smashed records by skydiving from the stratosphere also smashed the face of a Greek truck driver on September 30, 2010.

Forty-three-year-old history-making daredevil Felix Baumgartner has lost an appeal in Austrian court to toss his conviction on charges stemming from a 2010 road rage altercation in his hometown of Salzburg.

According to the Daily Mail, victim Dimitrios P., 38, told reporters Felix hit him with a sucker punch that “came out of the blue.”

The truck driver describes the incident, in which Felix, a former boxer, aligned with another motorist against the trucker:

The other driver that was involved was his photographer — and he felt that he could also do the same and followed Mr. Baumgartner, at which point I decided to have a word with the photographer. Mr Baumgartner decided that it was his job to get involved and he tried to claim I had attacked him and it was self-defense, but this is madness. There were two of them. The reality is that he punched me full in the face with his fist and left me with a cut. There was blood everywhere. I never tried to conceal anything at the court — I admitted that I had tried to kick him but it was only in retaliation. He was just acting the tough guy and showing off and making himself the hero, but he isn’t a hero at all.

A lower court fined Baumgartner in the incident. The appeals court sided with the lower court today.
