After the horrific bombings during the Boston Marathon today, cities across the world are on high alert. In New York City, the NYPD and counter-terrorism units have been dispatched at both Times Square and Grand Central Station. Officers are quietly, yet efficiently, monitoring the areas, as well as areas key landmarks across the city. Around every corner, you could expect to see a cop, a cop car, and a police van, patrolling and monitoring the area near Times Square and Grand Central Station, keeping an eye out for any suspicious activity.
The NYPD was very cryptic, but, from what we could gather, the terror alert hasn’t been heightened; the increased presence of officials were the only indicator that something was “different.” We’ve reached out to the Deputy Commissioner of Public Information and here’s what Paul J Browne, Deputy Commissioner of the NYC Police Department, said in a statement to Heavy.
We’re stepping up security at hotels and other prominent locations in the city through deployment of the NYPD’s critical response vehicles (CRVs) until more about the explosion is learned.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of today’s horrific bombing.
