There is a significant increase in activity at the hospital where Mandela is still in critical condition.  News crews and crowds of people have concentrated outside of the South African hospital overnight, chanting songs about the iconic anti-apartheid leader. Cameras and reporters are found mingling among balloons, posters and cards.

This is sparked yet another wave of rumors that the 94-year old, revolutionary leader was dead. Meanwhile, NBC has reported that the ailing Mandela “opened his eyes and smiled” once his daughter Zindzi told him President Obama was going to visit him this week.

Twitter has seen yet another surge of condolences for Nelson Mandela, a phenomenon which happened not so long ago when Mandela had first been admitted to the hospital. Weeks ago, false news of his breaking death went viral on the internet even though he remained in stable yet critical condition. News over the weekend, however, indicated that Mandela’s health took a turn for the worse and the sudden new surge of crowds have raised suspicions that the former president may have passed on.
