School Bus Full of Kids Crashes on Highway in Kansas

A school bus filled with female students rolled over at Kansas Highway 7 and Highway 32, reports KMBC.

The crash occurred at around 1:00 p.m. local time.

Here’s what you need to know…

1. Four Children Are Critically Injured

KSHB reports that four people are critically injured, five have major injuries with the rest suffering from minor injuries, in total 18 people required treatment. The injured include students and the driver. It’s believed the bus was carrying 36 students who are all girls.

2. The Bus Flipped Over

The bus overturned on an off-ramp in Bonner Springs (below), Kansas, reports KSHB. Bonner Springs is just over 20 miles west of Kansas City.

3. This Bus is From Missouri

The crash is not related to the Bonner Springs school district, the bus may be from Missouri. KMBC reports that the bus is from Durham School Services in Missouri. The girls are believed to be sixth graders from Pembroke Hill School in Kansas City. They were en route to a camp out in DeSoto, reports KMBZ News.

4. One Student Was Trapped in the Bus

At least one student was trapped in the wreckage and had to be freed by emergency services.

5. A Huge Emergency Response is Underway

The emergency has been classified as a code red. A triage has been set up around the carnage. The Kansas City Star reports that nine ambulances from different agencies were on scene.

The Associated Press reports that Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri have said they received eight children.
