1. Sean Azzariti Has Made the First Legal Purchase of Marijuana in the U.S.

2. The Weed He Purchased Will Be Donated

Apparently, Azzariti will not be smoking the marijuana he purchased. According to TMZ, the 32-year-old said:

He’s storing his 3.5 grams of Bubba Kush, his truffle edible, and his $57 receipt from the Denver dispensary where he bought all the stuff because he plans to donate it to a museum.

And, why is he doing this? In the words of Azzariti, “It’s a piece of history, dude.” In the meantime, Azzariti is locking his new purchase away in a safe.


3. Azzariti Blazed Up to Celebrate

He may not be smoking the weed he bought today, but he did celebrate by smoking up with marijuana taken from his own personal stash at home. Afterward, he pigged out, binging on gingerbread waffles with apple puree.

4. Sean Azzariti Is an Iraq War Veteran

USA Today reported that Sean Azzariti is actually an Iraq War Veteran. Apparently, Azzariti has lobbied publicly for legalization of marijuana and says that weed helps him mitigate problems stemming from his post-traumatic stress syndrome after serving two tours in Iraq as well as 6 years in the Marine Corps.


5. It Was Planned Ahead of Time That Azzariti Would Make the First Legal Pot Purchase

It was no luck that Azzariti was the first person to buy marijuana legally in the U.S. According to a press release that was issued, he was chosen ahead of time. The press release stated the following:

The first customer will be Sean Azzariti, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran in Denver who can now legally use marijuana to alleviate the symptoms of post-traumatic disorder (PTSD), which he developed following two deployments to Iraq. Azzariti appeared in a Yes on 64 campaign television ad last year in which he discussed how legalization would benefit those suffering from PTSD — a condition that is not covered under Colorado’s medical marijuana law despite repeated efforts to add it.
