Markice Moore Suicide Attempt: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Markice Moore, a rapper and actor best known for his role in The Walking Dead, has survived a suicide attempt, according to reports. Here’s what you need to know:


1. He Tried to Overdose on Xanax

Moore was found on Feb. 17, unresponsive, having attempted to overdose on Xanax and Patron tequila, according to TMZ. He was transferred to the hospital and was held for a 72-hour period for observation and psychiatric evaluation.

Moore’s manager told TMZ that the actor was distraught over the death of his grandmother.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, 79 percent of overdose suicide attempts involve prescription drugs:

Poisoning is a leading method in suicide deaths, and drugs and/or alcohol make up 75% of suicide deaths due to poisoning.


2. He Recorded a Suicide Note


Moore reportedly left a video suicide note, in which he addresses his reasons for committing suicide, specifically for the benefit of his children, as was reported by TMZ.

According to University of Utah researcher Lenora Olsen in her 2005 thesisThe Use of Suicide Notes as an Aid for Understanding Motive in Completed Suicides, suicide notes are often used as a way to to ease the pain of those known to the victim or to set out the reasons for suicide.


3. He Survived and Was Released


After being monitored for 72 hours, Moore was released and is reportedly recuperating.

His manager, speaking to US Weekly, said the actor needed some privacy to get well:

“At this time, Mr. Moore is focused on getting the help he needs and moving forward with his life to live it to the fullest. He has a bright future ahead of him that he is looking forward to. We ask that you respect his privacy while he is taking time to heal and keep Markice and his family in your prayers.”


4. He Was Once Charged With Child Abuse

Moore, who is perhaps best known fo playing Anthony on season three of AMC’s The Walking Dead, got his start on “From G’s to Gents,” an MTV reality show.

Back in 2010, Moore was charged with abusing his infant daughter, after a five-month investigation. The charges were later dropped.


5. He Released a Video Last Week on Youtube


In a video released February 15, just three before his suicide attempt, Moore thanks Chris Daly of League One for his support of the Walking Hope charity.

The Walking Hope, a cancer charity, is not endorsed by AMC, which distributes the “Walking Dead,” and that channel has even filed a lawsuit alleging copyright infringement.

As the charity’s spokesperson Bradley Egel said:

“Without AMC’s continued permission, the Walking Hope will no longer exist and thousands of people will lose out.”
