The question of, “Will mail be delivered on New Year’s Day?” is answered with a big “No.” All post offices and federal offices of any kind will be closed for the holiday, which means that no businesses nor homes will get mail. This also counts out USPS packages. According to USPS, because it is a federal holiday, all federal offices are closed. However, all federal workers are still paid for the day.

Fedex and UPS will be closed as well. In fact, you can check out the entire holiday schedule for Fedex by clicking here.

Additional holidays on which mail is not delivered are:

Christmas Day
Martin Luther King Jr’s Birthday
Washington’s Birthday (President’s Day)
Memorial Day
Independence Day
Labor Day
Columbus Day
Veterans Day
Thanksgiving Day

As for New Year’s Eve, however, post offices will be open, but may have limited hours for the holiday. In addition to New Year’s Eve and Day, January 2, 2017 will also be observed for the New Year, according to the official post offices schedule. This means that regular mail delivery will not resume until January 3, 2017. Mail will not be picked up from collection boxes on New Year’s Day or January 2, 2017 either, but Priority Mail Express mail will be delivered on Sunday and Monday.
