Gloria Allred’s Family: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Getty Attorney Gloria Allred and her client Heather Kerr speak during a press conference regarding the sexual assault allegations that have been brought against Harvey Weinstein and what he told Kerr about what she had to do to get a job in Hollywood at Allred's office on October 20 in Los Angeles, California.

One of the five Roy Moore sexual misconduct accusers has admitted that she added words to a notable signature in her high school yearbook by the Republican candidate for Senate.

Beverly Young Nelson, who accused Moore of sexually assaulting her when she was a teenager, said on Good Morning America on December 8 that she added words to the inscription she claims Moore wrote in her 1977 yearbook.

“I had wrote under it where it happened at,” she said on the morning talk show. “I want to make this straight.”

The yearbook inscription was used as evidence against Moore when she held a press conference alongside attorney Gloria Allred telling her relationship with Moore.

Allred is representing her, and she said hours after Nelson’s GMA interview that the additions were made “to remind herself of who Roy Moore was, and where and when (Moore) signed her yearbook.”

Allred is a high-profile attorney who’s represented clients in controversial cases, especially involving the protection of women’s rights. In 2012, Allred’s reported net worth was around $20 million, according to the TheRichest.com.

Allred has been married twice, but is currently single. She had a daughter with her first husband and has two grandchildren.

Here’s what you need to know about Allred’s family:

Allred was born into a Jewish family in Philadelphia on July 3, 1941. Her father was a salesman while her mother was a housewife. She graduated from the Philadelphia High School for Girls and then attended the University of Pennsylvania. At the school, she met her first husband, Peyton Bray. In a 2010 profile by Harpers Bazaar, she said that she met Bray her sophomore year, and her husband became abusive and had a mental breakdown.

The couple had one child together, on September 20, 1961, a daughter named Lisa (Bloom). By the time she was a senior, though, she became a single mother after they divorced.

Bray was known to have suffered from a bipolar disorder and eventually committed suicide.

Allred’s second marriage was in 1968, when she married William Allred, who worked as a businessman and an aerospace entrepreneur. She worked as a high school teacher at the time, and they had a messy divorce in 1987 after 19 years together. She told Harpers Bazaar that she never intended on remarrying.

2. Allred’s Daughter is a Prominent Civil Rights Lawyer

Lisa Bloom.

Allred’s daughter, Lisa Bloom, ended up becoming a civil rights attorney, too. She’s known for representing women who bring forth sexual harassment claims and was one of the people who advocated for Fox News Channel to fire longtime analyst and host Bill O’Reilly.

Bloom also owns a civil rights law firm, The Bloom Firm, and represented Kathy Griffin when her controversial photo shoot holding the head of President Donald Trump was published. She also had her own show on truTV show, Lisa Bloom: Open Court, and was the legal analyst on NBC’s Today show for several years. She married her current husband, Braden Pollock, on December 5, 2014. He founded a marketing firm and also works as The Bloom Firm’s manager. Bloom has two children, Sarah and Sam, and lives with Pollock and a foster son in Los Angeles.

Speaking about the influence her mother had on her life, Bloom said to Harpers Bazaar that it was “empowering” growing up with with Allred.

3. Allred Condemned Her Daughter for Representing Harvey Weistein

GettyU.S. film producer Harvey Weinstein poses during a photocall as he arrives to attend the De Grisogono Party on the sidelines of the 70th Cannes Film Festival, at the Cap-Eden-Roc hotel in Antibes, near Cannes, southeastern France, on May 23.

When the first sexual assault allegations against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein came to light, Bloom announced she was representing him. The move shocked many, as Bloom typically represents accusers, not the person being accused.

During an October interview with The Wrap, Gloria commented on her daughter’s decision to represent Weinstein, saying she would have decided against being his legal counsel.

“Had I been asked by Mr. Weinstein to represent him, I would have declined, because I do not represent individuals accused of sex harassment,” she said during the interview. “I only represent those who allege that they are victims of sexual harassment.”

Allred also said that she wouldn’t be afraid to face Bloom in court, with her representing some of Weinstein’s accusers.

“While I would not represent Mr. Weinstein, I would consider representing anyone who accused Mr. Weinstein of sexual harassment, even if it meant that my daughter was the opposing counsel,” Allred said in her statement.

Bloom ended up stepping down as Weinstein’s attorney just days after she signed on.

4. Allred & Her Ex-Husband Had Court Hearings After He Appealed Their Divorce Judgement

Attorney Gloria Allred, left, and actress La Rivers announce the filing of a lawsuit at a press conference outside of New York Supreme Court on June 1, 2016 in New York City.

There was a major court battle and dispute in her divorce to William Allred. A 1992 article in The Los Angeles Times said that William appealed their divorce judgement, which left him owing more than $4 million to her.

In court, the two didn’t speak to each other, exchanging “little more than glances” at a bankruptcy hearing.

“It’s the height of hypocrisy for her to do this,” William said to The Times. “I put her through law school, and now she’s going to take everything I ever earned…I don’t think feminists would approve of that. Feminists believe in equal rights for men and women.”

William was convicted in 1987 on charges of conspiring to defraud the government when he sold counterfeit aircraft parts through his company. He maintained his innocence of any criminal wrongdoing.

5. Allred’s Granddaughter is a Lawyer & Grandson is a Dancer

In 2008, it was reproted that Allred purchased a condominium overlooking the bear in Malibu, California for $5.6 million. The beach home came with two bedrooms and four bathrooms, a game room and has 2,597 feet, CelebrityDetective.com reported.

Allred’s grandchildren, Sam and Sarah, are 25- and 27-years old, respectively. Sarah also works as a lawyer while Sam is a dancer and blogger.

Sarah focuses her practice at Bryan Cave on commercial litigation and labor and employment matters. She previously worked as an intern for the law firm in 2012 and subsequently joined as a full-time associate.
