Steelers vs Browns Preview

In a tight division like the AFC North, every game against a divisional foe a vastly important, so the stakes are high as the Browns welcome the Steelers to Cleveland on Sunday. The Browns are 4-3 and are coming off a mini-bye week, having knocked off Denver on Thursday night football.

The Browns earned that win without the services of Baker Mayfield, who is dealing with a serious shoulder injury, which includes a torn labrum and fracture. Mayfield is expected to be on the field against the Steelers, doing enough during the week to show that he can be productive on the field despite being banged up.

“It is pretty simple. It is really medically he is ready to go,” Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said. “Our doctors, our trainers and the second opinions felt very comfortable about that, and Baker feels that he is ready and he feels like he is ready to help this team win.”

The Browns have not been healthy for most of the season, with Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham Jr. serving as consistent names on the injury report. Beckham has been dealing with shoulder issues and is coming off a torn ACL he suffered last season, forcing him to miss the first two games. Landry missed four games this season with a knee injury, but both will be out there with Mayfield on Sunday, marking the first time in over a year that the trio has played together.

“We are excited to see all of our guys out there,” Stefanski said. “Whenever guys are battling through injuries, I see the hard work that they put in the training room, in the weight room and obviously in the meeting room so we want those guys out there together all of the time.”

The Steelers have turned it around since a three-game losing streak, winning their last two, including an OT victory against the Seahawks on Oct. 17. Tensions are always high between the Browns and Steelers but this game is highly-anticipated considering the Cleveland ended their rival’s season a year ago with a resounding 48-37 win in the Wild Card game.

“I never like to lose a game,” veteran Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger said this week. “In the year, only one team ever ends the way they want to, but I wouldn’t say that they’re the reason I came back.”

He’s expecting a rowdy Dawg Pound on Sunday.

“It’s a challenge,” he said. “They’re passionate. Any time your fans have a nickname, or an area has a nickname, it’s pretty cool. They like to get on us, and it’s part of the game.

“Obviously, when you go there and you play well and you win, it has a little extra feeling of satisfaction. But it’s not easy to play there.”

The Browns are a 2.5-point favorite for the matchup.
