Meanwhile, Zamir White (quadricep) also will be deemed doubtful for the contest, paving the way for the Raiders to likely be without both backs this weekend. If the duo is inactive versus Denver, Las Vegas would likely start Ameer Abdullah at running back, according to Reed, with Dylan Laube and practice-squad member Sincere McCormick also in the mix, per Vic Tafur of The Athletic.
Mattison (ankle) remained sidelined at practice Thursday. The same applies to Zamir White (quadricep), with both backs in danger of missing Sunday's game against the Broncos. Friday's final injury report will reveal the game status of the duo, but if neither are available this weekend, Ameer Abdullah and Dylan Laube would be in line for expanded roles in Week 12, with Sincere McCormick and/or Chris Collier representing potential practice squad elevations.
Mattison (ankle) won't practice Wednesday, Paul Gutierrez of ESPN.com reports. Fellow running back Zamir White (quadricep) was also sidelined Wednesday, after both players were forced out of this past Sunday's loss to the Dolphins. Mattison's status warrants tracking as this Sunday's game against the Broncos approaches, but for the time being, the healthy running backs on the Raiders' active roster are Ameer Abdullah and Dylan Laube. Chris Collier and/or Sincere McCormick could be elevated from the practice squad to provide additional depth out of the backfield if one or both of Mattison and White aren't available Sunday.
Mattison left Sunday's game against the Dolphins with an ankle injury. Meanwhile, fellow RB Zamir White (quad) was also forced out of the contest, leaving Ameer Abdullah to handle the team's backfield duties. Before his injury, Mattison carried five times for 19 yards and caught all three of his targets for 50 yards.
Mattison rushed nine times for 36 yards in the Raiders' 41-24 loss to the Bengals on Sunday. Mattison once again led the Raiders' backfield in carries, outpacing Zamir White, who did score a rushing touchdown, by three attempts overall. Neither back was targeted in the passing game, and the non-fantasy-friendly pecking order is likely to persist through a Week 10 bye and into a Week 11 road matchup against the Dolphins on Sunday, Nov. 17.
Head coach Antonio Pierce said Wednesday that Mattison remains the team's starting running back, but Pierce also wants to get Zamir White more involved, Levi Edwards of the Raiders' official site reports. Mattison started the last four games and took at least 57 percent of snaps and at least 17 touches in each contest, averaging 16.5 carries for 44.5 yards (2.7 YPC) and 3.8 catches for 28.8 yards (7.2 YPT) while scoring one touchdown. The volume has made him a reasonable fantasy starter, at least in PPR leagues, but his struggles on the ground seemingly open the door for White to take on a significant role again, possibly as soon as this Sunday at Cincinnati.
Mattison rushed the ball 14 times for 15 yards in Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Chiefs. He added five receptions on five targets for 29 yards. Mattison was the only Raider to record more than two carries, but he didn't do anything to earn the continued opportunity. His longest rush went for just five yards, and four of his 14 carries went for zero or negative yards. Mattison did manage to salvage his day as a receiver, as he tied for second on the team with five targets. Zamir White saw only two carries and totaled -1 yards, though it wouldn't be surprising to see the Raiders mix up their running back usage in Week 9 against the Bengals.
Mattison rushed 23 times for 92 yards and caught all three of his targets for 31 yards in Sunday's 20-15 loss to the Rams. The Raiders got Zamir White (groin) back for the first time since Week 4, but Mattison got 23 carries to White's three. Having usurped White as the top option in Vegas' backfield, Mattison should have a high touch floor moving forward on a Raiders team that wants to play smashmouth football due to the team's lack of talent in the passing game. Mattison has logged at least 17 touches in three consecutive games heading into a Week 8 home game against the Chiefs.
