Bryce Huff Latest News
Sent to injured reserve
The Eagles placed Huff (wrist) on injured reserve Friday. Huff will undergo surgery on his wrist and will miss a minimum of four games on injured reserve. Huff has played 225 defensive snaps as a rotational edge rusher, recording 10 tackles (five solo), including 2.5 sacks, four QB hits and one forced fumble.
Set for surgery
Head coach Nick Siriani stated Huff will have surgery on his wrist Thursday, ruling him out for Sunday's game against the Rams, Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports. Huff has been playing with a cast on for the last two games, but will ultimately opt for surgery, instead of continuing to try and play through the injury. According to Olivia Reiner of The Philadelphia Inquirer, it's not clear how long Huff will need to stay sidelined, but the expectation is that he'll have an opportunity to return toward the end of the season.
Logs full practice Thursday
Huff (wrist) was listed as a full practice participant Thursday. Huff was diagnosed with a wrist injury following the Eagles' 28-23 win over the Jaguars this past Sunday. However, the issue doesn't appear to be severe as he was able to practice Thursday without limitations, and he should be able to suit up against Dallas on Sunday. In the seven games prior to his injury, Huff logged eight tackles (three solo), including 1.5 sacks.
Dealing with hand injury
Huff has a hand injury that limited his snaps during Sunday's 28-23 win over the Jaguars, Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports. The linebacker needed treatment before the game, per Zangaro. Huff, who signed a three-year, $51.1-million deal in the offseason, only played more than 50 percent of the defensive snaps in two of Philadelphia's first seven games even before his injury. The former Jet has just eight tackles (three solo), including 1.5 sacks, on the year.
Maintaining limited role
Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said Huff's role with the Eagles will continue to be the same Sunday against the Buccaneers, Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports. Huff was considered a marque signing for the Eagles, inking a three-year, $51.1 million contract in March, coming off a career-best 10-sack season with the Jets in 2023. With that, an increased workload was expected, however, the Memphis product has continued to play a part-time role, which has seen him record just one assisted tackle through three games. What is not clear is whether this was always the plan or if Huff has failed to earn that extra time on the field. The 26-year-old averaged only 27 snaps per game on defense last season and is currently averaging about 25, so the difference in playing time is hardly significant. Huff's performance and workload over the coming weeks, starting in Week 4 against Tampa Bay, may answer that question.
Headed to Philly
Huff is set to sign a three-year, $51.1 million contract with the Eagles on Wednesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Huff is coming off a 2023 campaign that saw him record a career-high 29 combined tackles and 10.0 sacks, which propelled him to sign what is expected to be the largest non-QB contract for an undrafted player in history. His presence should bolster a pass rush that finished 20th in the league last year with 43 sacks.
