George Kittle Latest News
Logs limited practice Thursday
Kittle (hamstring) was limited in practice Thursday, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports. Before Kittle was held out of Wednesday's session due to what has been termed hamstring irritation by Kyle Shanahan, the coach himself relayed little concern about the tight end's potential to play Sunday against the Seahawks, per Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com. Kittle took a step in the right direction Thursday, but he still may need to log a full practice Friday in order to head into the weekend sans a designation.
Not 'much concern' for Sunday
Coach Kyle Shanahan said that there "isn't much concern" about Kittle's status for Sunday's game against the Seahawks, despite the tight end not practicing Wednesday, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports. Kittle has tended to a variety of health concerns this season, including hamstring, rib and foot issues. The current injury has been termed hamstring irritation by Shanahan, but there's an expectation that Kittle will take part in drills Thursday. Kittle's ensuing activity level thus will be of interest as the 49ers continue Week 11 prep.
Not practicing Wednesday
Coach Kyle Shanahan said Kittle (hamstring) won't practice Wednesday, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports. Shanahan relayed Monday that Kittle was dealing with hamstring irritation, which will keep him out of the first session of the week. Kittle has gutted through hamstring, rib and foot injuries this season, missing only one game (Week 3) as a result, but it's unclear if he may be in danger of another DNP in Week 11. His activity level, or lack thereof, Thursday and Friday likely will provide some insight into his odds to play Sunday against the Seahawks.
Tending to hamstring injury
Coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday that Kittle is dealing with "hamstring irritation" in the wake of Sunday's win at Tampa Bay, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports. Kittle has been listed with hamstring, rib and foot issues on injury reports this season, but he's still logged more than 85 percent of the offensive snaps in seven of his eight appearances en route to a cumulative 43-560-7 line on 53 targets. Shanahan said the current health concern will be watched as the week continues, so his status bears monitoring once the 49ers reconvene for practice Wednesday ahead of Sunday's game against the Seahawks.
Continues to ball out
Kittle had three receptions on four targets for 57 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 23-20 win over the Buccaneers. Kittle continued his dominant fantasy campaign by scoring his seventh touchdown through eight active games. The star tight end had picked up the slack offensively while the 49ers suffered multiple injuries to key players over the first half of the season. With the team welcoming back star tailback Christian McCaffrey (Achilles) on Sunday, it was a positive sign to see the tight end still posting big fantasy numbers as the offense returns to full strength. Kittle continues to be one of the top options at his position heading into a Week 11 matchup against Seattle.
Leads injured receiving crew
Kittle secured six of seven targets for 128 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 30-24 win over Dallas. Kittle went off against Dallas in a primetime matchup, leading his team in all receiving categories while catching Brock Purdy's lone touchdown pass. The 49ers were already shorthanded before losing wideout Deebo Samuel (ribs) to injury in this contest, so Kittle may be asked to do even more as the season progresses. For now, the San Francisco will enter its bye week and rest multiple injured starters ahead of a Nov. 10 tilt against Tampa Bay. The eccentric tight end has been a fantasy stud through eight games, producing a 40/503/7 receiving line for managers.
Active in Week 8
Kittle (foot) is active for Sunday's game versus the Cowboys, Lindsey Pallares of the 49ers' official site reports. Kittle tended to a foot sprain during Week 8 prep, limiting him to a pair of capped sessions Thursday and Friday and leaving his status up in the air for Sunday. Having said that, he'll be available to San Francisco's offense this weekend along with WR Deebo Samuel (illness). The pair should be the team's featured pass catchers for the foreseeable future with WR Brandon Aiyuk (knee) out for the season and WR Jauan Jennings (hip) sidelined for a second straight contest.
Expected to play
Kittle (foot), who is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Cowboys, is expected to play, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Kittle suffered a foot sprain in last week's loss to Kansas City and missed practice Wednesday, but after logging limited sessions Thursday and Friday, he looks to be trending toward playing Sunday. Official word on Kittle's status will arrive 90 minutes before Sunday's 8:20 p.m. ET kickoff, when the 49ers will release their inactive list. The 49ers are expecting to have both Kittle and wideout Deebo Samuel (illness) -- who is also listed as questionable -- available Sunday, a major boon for a passing game that will be without Brandon Aiyuk (knee) and Jauan Jennings (hip).
Deemed questionable for Week 8
Kittle (foot) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Cowboys, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. After Kittle played 58 of the 49ers' 63 offensive snaps in this past Sunday's loss to the Chiefs, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said that Kittle suffered a foot sprain in the contest and was considered day-to-day. Kittle sat out practice Wednesday, but he returned to the field Thursday as a limited participant. He again was limited Friday, and though he'll take a designation into the weekend, Kittle would seem to be more likely than not to play Sunday. In addition to Kittle, the 49ers are listing wideout Deebo Samuel (illness) as questionable, and both could be primed to fill major roles in the passing game for a 49ers squad that will be without running back Christian McCaffrey (IR, Achilles) and wideouts Brandon Aiyuk (IR, knee) and Jauan Jennings (hip).
