The Lions are releasing Sudfeld, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Sudfeld worked ahead of Hendon Hooker in Detroit's first two preseason games and was then rested for the final contest, but the Lions apparently prefer the second-year pro over his 30-year-old counterpart. While Sudfeld could still end up back with the team in some capacity, the willingness to make him available to other teams suggests Hooker is now the preferred backup to Jared Goff.
