Surtain recorded a tackle for a loss, a pass defensed and an interception in Sunday's 28-14 win over the Panthers. The cornerback suffered a concussion during Denver's Week 6 loss to the Chargers and missed the team's Week 7 win over the Saints, but he cleared the concussion protocol in time for this game. Surtain has played on at least 80 percent of the defensive snaps in all of the games he's been fully available to play in this season. The fourth-year pro has 15 tackles (nine solo), six pass breakups and three interceptions in 2024.

Pat Surtain Latest News
Intercepts pass in win
Surtain recorded a tackle for a loss, a pass defensed and an interception in Sunday's 28-14 win over the Panthers. The cornerback suffered a concussion during Denver's Week 6 loss to the Chargers and missed the team's Week 7 win over the Saints, but he cleared the concussion protocol in time for this game. Surtain has played on at least 80 percent of the defensive snaps in all of the games he's been fully available to play in this season. The fourth-year pro has 15 tackles (nine solo), six pass breakups and three interceptions in 2024.
Clears concussion protocols
Surtain (concussion) carries no injury designation into Sunday's game against Carolina, Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post reports. Surtain was a full participant in all three practices this week while working through the league's five-step concussion protocols. He has cleared the final step and will make his return from a one-game absence. Surtain has logged 14 tackles (eight solo) and five defensed passes -- including two interceptions (one of which was a pick-six) -- across six regular-season outings.
Progressing through protocols
Surtain (concussion) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice session, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports. Surtain suffered a concussion in Week 6, which caused him to miss the Broncos' Week 7 win against the Saints. His ability to fully participate in practice Wednesday is an encouraging sign, but he'll need to clear the final steps of the league's concussion protocols in order to play against the Panthers on Sunday. Surtain has accrued 14 tackles (eight solo), five passes defended and two interceptions (including a pick-six) across six regular-season games.
Won't play in Week 7
Surtain (concussion) has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Saints, Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post reports. Surtain was unable to practice in any fashion this week after sustaining a concussion in Sunday's loss to the Broncos. With the two-time Pro Bowl cornerback set to miss his first game of the season, Levi Wallace and Ja'Quan McMillian could be in store for increased reps out of the Denver secondary.
Estimated as DNP
Surtain (concussion) was listed as a non-participant on Monday's practice estimation. Surtain sustained a concussion in the Broncos' Week 6 loss to the Chargers, so it's no surprise he was estimated as a non-participant Monday. The Alabama product must still clear the NFL's five-step concussion protocol in order to suit up for Denver's Week 7 matchup against the Saints on Thursday night.
Will remain out
Surtain suffered a concussion Sunday against the Chargers and will not return, Nick Kosmider of The Athletic reports. Surtain suffered the injury on the first play of the game and will now enter the league's five-step concussion protocols. The absence of the Alabama product will be a significant hit to the Broncos' defense, which Tremon Smith and Levi Wallace will work to lessen for the remainder of Sunday's matchup.
Being evaluated for concussion
Surtain is being evaluated for a concussion after leaving Sunday's contest against the Chargers, Ryan McFadden of The Denver Post reports. Surtain was injured while defending a pass intended for Ladd McConkey during Denver's first defensive play of the game. If Surtain isn't cleared to return, Tremon Smith and Levi Wallace would be candidates for increased roles.
Two INTs, pick-six in victory
Surtain recorded three tackles (two solo) and two interceptions in the Broncos' win over the Raiders on Sunday. PS2's big play was a 100-yard pick-six of Gardner Minshew on a second-quarter pass intended for Brock Bowers at the goal line. Later, in the fourth quarter, Surtain picked off Aidan O'Connell. They were the first two interceptions of the season for Surtain, who has 14 tackles (eight solo) and four pass breakups, including the two INTs, through five games.
Nabs record-breaking extension
Surtain and the Broncos agreed Wednesday on a four-year, $96 million contract extension, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Surtain's deal includes $77.5 million guaranteed, and his annual average salary of $24 million makes him the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL, surpassing the Packers' Jaire Alexander ($21 million). The 24-year-old received the lavish extension after turning in back-to-back Pro Bowl seasons, including a first-team All-Pro nod in 2022. He suited up for all 17 games for the Broncos in 2023, tallying a career-high 69 tackles with 12 passes defensed and one interception.
