Yetur Gross-Matos Latest News
Will play vs. Seahawks
Gross-Matos (knee) is active for Sunday's game against the Seahawks, Lindsey Peters of the 49ers' official site reports. Gross-Matos was a full practice participant all week and was activated from injured reserve Saturday. He'll boost the 49ers' depth at defensive end behind starters Leonard Floyd and Nick Bosa.
Activated from injured reserve
The 49ers activated Gross-Matos (knee) from injured reserve Saturday, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports. Gross-Matos has missed the Niners' past five games but has a chance to play Sunday against the Seahawks. In three appearances before his injury, Gross-Matos recorded one solo tackle and one QB hit across 81 defensive snaps.
Questionable for Week 11
Gross-Matos (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Seahawks, Lindsey Pallares of the 49ers' official site reports. While Gross-Matos has been tagged as questionable, he is trending towards being activated from injured reserve ahead of Sunday's game after logging full practices all week. If he's able to play Sunday, he'll serve in a rotational role at defensive end behind starters Nick Bosa (hip) and Leonard Flloyd.
Logs full practice Wednesday
Gross-Matos (knee) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice. Wednesday was Gross-Matos' first full practice since his 21-day practice window to return from injured reserve opened Nov. 6. If he's able to practice without limitations over the next two days, he could be activated off IR ahead of Sunday's game against the Seahawks.
Won't play Week 10
Gross-Matos (knee) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against Tampa Bay. Gross-Matos has missed the 49ers' last four games while on injured reserve due to a knee injury he picked up in Week 4 against the Patriots. His 21-day practice window to return from IR opened Wednesday, but he won't play Sunday after logging limited practices all week. Gross-Matos will have to log consecutive full practices before being activated off IR, and his next chance at suiting up will be Week 11 against the Seahawks on Sunday, Nov. 17.
Designated to return
The 49ers designated Gross-Matos (knee) to return from injured reserve Wednesday. Gross-Matos has missed the 49ers' last four games after likely sustaining a knee injury in the team's Week 4 win over the Patriots. However, the opening his 21-day practice window Wednesday suggests that the 26-year-old is almost past the issue. Gross-Matos must still be activated to the 49ers' active roster to have a chance at suiting up in Week 10, when the team travels to Tampa Bay.
Has successful surgery
Gross-Matos underwent knee surgery Friday, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Gross-Matos was placed on IR on Saturday, so he actually had the surgery before that, although it was not reported at the time. The Penn State product suffered the injury in Week 4 and is expected to miss 4-to-8 weeks, with his earliest availability being Week 10 against the Buccaneers.
Placed on IR with knee injury
The 49ers placed Gross-Matos (knee) on injured reserve Saturday, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Gross-Matos was unable to practice all week after injuring his knee in Week 4 against New England. The injury appears severe enough to warrant a multi-week absence for the 2020 second-round pick. Gross-Matos will be forced to sit out for at least four regular-season games, and the earliest he can return is Week 10 against Tampa Bay. Robert Beal will serve as the 49ers' main rotational edge rusher behind starters Nick Bosa and Leonard Floyd.
Missing Week 5
Gross-Matos (knee) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Cardinals, David Lombardi of The San Francisco Standard reports. Gross-Matos played 40 total snaps (35 defensive and five on special teams) and recorded one tackle in Week 4's win over the Patriots, but it appears he sustained a knee injury in the process. The first-year 49er won't suit up in Week 5 after logging DNPs both Wednesday and Thursday, so expect Robert Beal to see additional work as San Francisco's top rotational edge rusher.
