Amare Barno Latest News
Still not on 53-man roster
Barno (knee) was downgraded to out for Sunday's matchup with the Chiefs, Alex Zietlow of The Charlotte Observer reports. The linebacker was designated to return from the reserve/PUP list Monday, opening his 21-day practice window to practice with the team before either being added to the 53-man roster or staying on PUP for the rest of the season. Barno suffered an ACL injury late in the 2023 campaign and has been on the list since training camp started. The 2022 sixth-round pick played on 180 defensive snaps in 15 games last season, making 21 tackles (13 solo).
Window opens
Barno (knee) was designated to return from the reserve/PUP list Monday, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports. Barno suffered an ACL injury late last season and has been on the PUP list since training camp opened. He'll now have a 21-day window to practice with the team before he needs to be added to the 53-man roster.
Sent to PUP list
The Panthers placed Barno (knee) on the reserve/PUP list Tuesday. Barno missed the final two games of last season and still isn't ready to play after missing all of training camp. Barno will miss at least the first four games of the 2024 season after recording 21 tackles (13 solo) across 188 defensive snaps and another 232 on special teams the previous year.
Goes on active/PUP list
Carolina placed Barno (knee) on the active/PUP list Friday. Barno is still recovering from a knee injury that resulted in him finishing last season on IR, though the 25-year-old did participate in a limited fashion during OTAs in May. He is eligible to be taken off the PUP list and begin practicing at any time.
Making progress
Barno (knee) is has been participating at Carolina's organized team activities in limited fashion, Schuvier Calihan of SI.com reports. Barno saw an 11 percent increase in defense snaps through 15 games last season before suffering an ACL injury. He remains without a specific return day, but his limited work at OTAs, albeit capped, is promising at this point. The 25-year-old has primarily been a depth option on the edge through two years in the league and projects for a similar role in 2024 when his health is back up to par.
Still dealing with injury
Barno (knee) is not participating in voluntary workouts Tuesday, Joe Person of The Athletic reports. Barno finished out the 2023 campaign on injured reserve after suffering a knee injury Week 16 against the Packers. Although it's not clear what specifically the injury was or how much longer it may affect him, it appears to still be a big enough issue that the Virginia Tech product is not taking part in drills. Luckily, for the Barno and the Panthers, training camp is still about three months away.
