Undergoes surgery
Head coach Kevin O'Connell told reporters that Darrisaw underwent surgery to repair a torn ACL and MCL in his left knee Monday, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports. Darrisaw will now be able to begin the recovery process after tearing his left ACL and MCL in the Vikings' Week 9 loss to the Rams. While Darrisaw remains sidelined for the remainder of the season, David Quessenberry is expected to continue serving as Minnesota's top left tackle.
Placed on IR
Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell said that Darrisaw was placed on injured reserve Friday after tearing the ACL and MCL in his left knee during Thursday's 30-20 loss to the Rams, Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com reports. Darrisaw will miss the remainder of the 2024 season due to the major injury, but the left tackle is expected to be ready to go for the start of the 2025 season. The loss of Darrisaw is a significant one for Minnesota, as he had played a major part in protecting quarterback Sam Darnold's blindside for the first seven games after signing a four-year, $113 million extension with the team this past offseason. With Darrisaw sidelined, expect David Quessenberry to take over as the Vikings' starting left tackle.
Leaves on crutches
Darrisaw (knee) was seen leaving the Vikings' locker room on crutches following Thursday's 30-20 loss to the Rams, Andrew Krammer of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. Darrisaw suffered a knee injury just before halftime and immediately went to the locker room and did not return to the game. Coach Kevin O'Connell did not have further information Thursday night, but he did say he anticipated an update Friday.
Out Thursday
Darrisaw (knee) will not return to Thursday's game against the Rams, Tyler Dragon of USA Today reports. The left tackle went to the locker room just before halftime. Darrisaw has started all seven of Minnesota's games this year. David Quessenberry is in for him.
Signs massive extension
Darrisaw and the Vikings agreed on a four-year, $113 million contract extension Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Darrisaw still had two years remaining on his rookie contract after being selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, but considering he's one of the best left tackles in the league, Minnesota was smart to lock him up long term. The offensive lineman will get $77 million in guaranteed money, which is the highest total for anyone at his position in the NFL.
Option exercised
The Vikings exercised Darrisaw's 2025 fifth-year option. The 24-year-old was the No. 23 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and has started 39-of-41 games he's appeared in since entering the league. Darrisaw has yet to make a Pro Bowl or be named an All-Pro, but he's an above-average, rock-solid left tackle and will either protect Sam Darnold or J.J. McCarthy's blind side this upcoming season.
