Schrader (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against Arizona, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports. Schrader will be a healthy inactive for a second straight week as the Rams roll with Kyren Williams, Blake Corum and Ronnie Rivers as the three running backs for Sunday's game. Inactive for Week 2
Schrader's next chance to suit up will come Week 3 against the 49ers on Sept. 22.
Inactive Sunday
Schrader (coach's decision) is inactive Sunday versus the Lions, Adam Grosbard of The Orange County Register reports. Schrader joined the Rams on Aug. 28 after being waived by the 49ers, so it's not a major surprise that he'll be unavailable Sunday. The running back will operate as an extreme depth option behind Kyren Williams and Blake Corum in the backfield with Los Angeles this season, likely limiting his chances of being active on game day.
Lands with Rams
The Rams claimed Schrader off waivers from the 49ers on Wednesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. The undrafted rookie out of Missouri was waived by San Francisco a day earlier, after finishing the preseason with 19 carries for 48 yards, two catches for eight yards and four kick returns for 120 yards. Schrader finished eighth in Heisman Trophy during his final season at Missouri in 2023 after rushing for 1,627 yards, but he's more likely to see playing time on special teams early on for the Rams.
Dropped by San Fran
Schrader was waived by the 49ers on Tuesday. Schrader joined San Francisco in April as an undrafted free agent out of Missouri, where he led the SEC in rushing as a sixth-year senior in 2023. However, the 5-foot-9 running back failed to catch on this preseason. Schrader will now be subject to waivers, and, if he goes unclaimed, he could be a candidate to re-join the 49ers via the practice squad. In his absence, Jordan Mason, Isaac Guerendo and Patrick Taylor will serve as the backups behind fantasy star Christian McCaffrey (calf).
Slow start to exhibition schedule
Schrader gained 15 yards on seven carries and added one reception on three targets for five yards in a preseason win over the Saints. Schrader struggled to find running room for the second exhibition game in a row, finishing both contests with a per-carry average well below three yards. The undrafted rookie still has some work to do in terms of earning a roster spot following the upcoming preseason finale against the Raiders.
Role elevated in preseason debut
Schrader rushed five times for six yards while catching his lone target for three yards in Saturday's preseason loss to Tennessee. Schrader was the first back brought off the bench behind elevated starter Jordan Mason on a night where the starting offense was rested and multiple running backs remained sidelined with injuries. The undrafted Missouri product didn't do much with his opportunity, but he does offer some upside with a proven college career that seemingly had him fall through the cracks during the NFL Draft. Schrader will definitely be buried on the depth chart if he sticks on San Francisco's roster, but he could be prove useful should he land in a situation with a path to touches as a rookie.
