Thompson (shoulder) was placed on the Buccaneers' practice injured list Monday, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports. Thompson suffered the injury in Thursday's loss to the Falcons after he was elevated from the practice squad for the matchup. Out at least four weeks
Thompson (shoulder) was placed on the Buccaneers' practice injured list Monday, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports. Thompson suffered the injury in Thursday's loss to the Falcons after he was elevated from the practice squad for the matchup. However, he did revert to the practice squad Friday before his placement on the injured list. He'll now be out of action and unable to practice with the team for at least the next four weeks.
Goes back to practice squad
Thompson reverted to Tampa Bay's practice squad Friday, per the NFL's transaction log. Thompson got his first opportunity this season to play Thursday versus Atlanta and tallied three offensive snaps along with three special-teams snaps. He didn't get any targets on offense but returned one kickoff for 21 yards. Thompson's likelihood of being elevated again Week 6 versus New Orleans likely depends upon the health of fellow wideouts Jalen McMillan (hamstring), Trey Palmer (concussion) and Kameron Johnson (ankle).
Receives bump up
Thompson was elevated to the active roster from the practice squad for Thursday's game against the Falcons, Greg Auman of Fox Sports reports. Thompson will get a chance to see his first action of the 2024 campaign, with Jalen McMillan (hamstring) and Trey Palmer (concussion) ruled out for TNF. The Toledo product appeared in seven regular-season games for the Seahawks last season but saw just one target, which he hauled in for a 10-yard gain.
Back in Tampa Bay
Thompson signed with the Buccaneers' practice squad Thursday, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports. The Toledo product failed to make the Buccaneers' initial 53-man roster Tuesday, but he's now secured a spot on the team's practice squad. Thompson appeared in seven regular-season games with the Seahawks in 2023, catching one pass for 10 yards while also playing 93 snaps on special-teams.
Cut by Tampa Bay
Thompson was cut by the Buccaneers on Tuesday, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports. The wide receiver recorded 15 catches for 137 yards and a touchdown during the preseason, but he still couldn't find a spot on a thin Tampa Bay depth chart. Thompson played on 23 offensive snaps with Seattle last year and caught one pass.
Keeps ascending in preseason finale
Thompson secured seven of eight targets for 45 yards in the Buccaneers' 24-14 preseason win over the Dolphins on Friday night. Thompson led the Buccaneers in receptions, receiving yards and targets on the night, putting together a fitting cap on what has been a very productive training camp and preseason. The journeyman wideout may have done enough to carve out a spot at the bottom of the team's receiver depth chart after recording 15 receptions for 137 yards and a touchdown through three exhibitions, and Rakim Jarrett's (undisclosed) likely placement on IR could clear the path for Thompson to make it past final cutdowns.
Stellar in second preseason game
Thompson secured five of six targets for 66 yards and a touchdown and rushed twice for 12 yards in the Buccaneers' 20-7 preseason loss to the Jaguars on Saturday night. Thompson has appeared in 12 regular-season games for the Seahawks since making his pro debut in 2021, but he has all of one catch to show for it. However, he's making a solid case in his long-shot bid for a roster spot with the Buccaneers, following up his 3-26-0 line on four targets in the exhibition opener against the Bengals by either tying for or owning the team lead in receptions, receiving yards and targets Saturday night. Thompson also scored the only points of the night for Tampa Bay's offense on his six-yard touchdown grab late in the second quarter, and he could give head coach Todd Bowles and his staff a tough decision come final cuts if he continues his strong play in Friday night's preseason finale against the Dolphins.
Finds work in Tampa Bay
Thompson signed with the Bucs on Wednesday, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports. With Deven Thompkins (hamstring) sent to injured reserve recently, Thompson gives the Bucs another veteran wideout body to bring to camp. In 12 career games with the Seahawks from 2021-23, Thompson caught one pass for 10 yards.
Joins active roster
The Toledo product has bounced back and forth between Seattle's active roster and practice squad this season, and he's in line to appear in his seventh game of the year Thursday. Thompson has almost strictly served as a special-teamer throughout his NFL career, with 125 of his 157 career snaps coming on special teams.
