Indianapolis signed Montgomery to a reserve/futures contract Monday. Montgomery didn't suit up for a regular-season game with the Colts in 2024, though he did log seven appearances with the team back in 2023. The 28-year-old will spent he offseason working to again earn a reserve gig with Indianapolis.
Montgomery signed with Indianapolis' practice squad Wednesday. Montgomery appeared in three games for the Colts last season and will stick around with the team for the 2024 campaign. The 27-year-old can contribute on both offense and special teams if called upon.
The Colts cut Montgomery on Tuesday, JJ Stankevitz of the team's official site reports. Montgomery was competing for a depth wide receiver role in training camp, but he wasn't able to make the final roster after accumulating three catches on seven targets for 51 yards across three preseason games. He could be invited back to the Colts' practice squad, which is what happened last season. Montgomery ended up signing onto Indianapolis' 53-man roster in December, and he appeared in seven regular-season games, finishing the season with three catches on eight targets for 56 yards and one touchdown.
Montgomery joined the Colts' practice squad Aug. 31 after being cut by the team two days prior ahead of the 53-man roster deadline. If active for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, Montgomery could see some action on special teams.
