Merriweather reverted to the Packers' practice squad Saturday following Friday's 34-29 loss to the Eagles, per the NFL's transaction log. Merriweather was active for Friday's game due to MarShawn Lloyd being ruled out with a hamstring injury, though the former didn't end up playing a snap. Merriweather could be elevated from the practice squad again for Week 2 against the Colts if Lloyd is unable to suit up for that contest.

Earlier Friday, Green Bay elevated Merriweather from the practice squad, and he now will be in uniform with the team opting to make rookie third-round pick MarShawn Lloyd (hamstring) inactive. Emanuel Wilson (hip) was limited in practice this week, and while he's available for RB reps behind starter Josh Jacobs, there's a chance Merriweather may see the first NFL action of his career. In three preseason games last month, Merriweather averaged 3.8 yards on his 26 carries.

The UMass product rushed for 99 yards on 25 carries during the Packers' three preseason games, and he could be elevated to the active roster if one of the three running backs on Green Bay's active roster misses time at some point this season.

Merriweather spent the second half of the 2023 season on the Packers' practice squad, and he signed with Green Bay in January on a reserve/future deal. He was competing for a depth spot at running back behind Josh Jacobs, and across three preseason outings, Merriweather turned 26 carries into 99 yards. If Merriweather clears waivers, he could look to stick around on the Packers' practice squad or explore his opportunities elsewhere.
In a corresponding move, the Packers released James Robinson from their practice squad. As long as Aaron Jones, AJ Dillon and Emanuel Wilson remain available for Green Bay though, Merriweather is unlikely to be elevated any time soon.
