Frankie Luvu Latest News
Logs sack versus Titans
Luvu logged three tackles (three solo), with 1.0 sacks, Sunday during Washington's win over Tennessee. Luvu brought down Will Levis for one of the team's two sacks during Sunday's victory. The 28-year-old has now racked up 4.0 sacks across his last four games played, bringing his total on the season to career-high 8.0.
Logs eight stops vs. Cowboys
Luvu recorded eight total tackles (five solo), including one tackle for loss, and defended three passes in Sunday's 34-26 loss to the Cowboys. The 28-year-old linebacker tied Bobby Wagner for the most tackles on the Commanders' defense in Sunday's loss, bringing his season total up to 79. Luvu has produced at a high level in his first season with the Commanders after signing a three-year, $31 million deal this past offseason. He ranks second on Washington's defense in sacks (7.0) and tackles for loss (eight) while ranking third in total tackles. Luvu is expected to remain a strong IDP option as the season progresses.
Huge day in loss
Luvu recorded 10 tackles (six solo) including 2.0 sacks during Thursday's 26-18 loss at Philadelphia. One of Luvu's sacks in Week 11 came when he perfectly diagnosed an attempt at a flea flicker early in the second quarter and single-handedly blew it up. His 7.0 sacks on the season are already tied for a career-high total with six games still remaining to play. He's solidly on the IDP radar ahead of a Week 12 matchup versus the Cowboys.
Active in defeat
Luvu recorded seven tackles (three solo), including 1.0 sacks, in Sunday's 28-27 loss to the Steelers. The outside linebacker also played on every defensive snap for the third game in a row and the fifth time in 10 games this season. Luvu has 61 tackles (30 solo), including 5.0 sacks, two passes defensed, a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries in 2024.
Good to go for Week 9
Luvu (shin) does not carry an injury designation into Sunday's matchup with the Giants, Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports reports. Luvu was absent from practice for the team's first two sessions of the week due to a shin issue, but he did return to log a limited practice Friday. The linebacker's participation was apparently enough for him to be ready to go for Week 9 versus New York.
Dealing with shin issue
Luvu (shin) didn't practice Wednesday, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports. Luvu played 100.0 percent of the Commanders' defensive snaps and recorded six total tackles in Sunday's win over the Bears; however, it appears he picked up a shin injury in the process. The first-year Commander will likely need to upgrade to at least limited participation either Thursday or Friday in order to suit up in Week 9, when Washington faces the Giants.
Logs sack against former team
Luvu recorded four total tackles (two solo), including 1.0 sacks and an additional tackle for loss, in Sunday's 40-7 win over the Panthers. Luvu signed a three-year, $36 million contract with the Commanders this past offseason after posting a monster 2023 campaign in Carolina, where he recorded 125 total tackles, including 5.5 sacks, forced two fumbles and defended five passes across 17 regular-season games. The 28-year-old made an impact in the first matchup against his former team, as he was one of two Commanders to sack Andy Dalton. Luvu has now tallied 41 total tackles, including 4.0 sacks, one forced fumble and one pass defended through Washington's first seven games. He's expected to continue being a problem for opposing offenses as the Commanders take on the Bears in Week 8.
Ready for Sunday
Luvu (toe) has no injury designation ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Panthers, John Keim of ESPN.com reports. Luvu upgraded from a DNP on Thursday to a full practice session Friday, suggesting that he's moved past his toe injury. The Washington State product has logged 39 total tackles, including 3.0 sacks, and defended one pass across the Commanders' first six games. He's expected to start opposite Dante Fowler as part of Washington's top outside-linebacker duo in Week 7.
Misses Thursday's practice
Luvu (toe) was a non-participant at Thursday's practice. Luvu practiced in limited fashion to kick off the week Wednesday, so he is seemingly trending in the wrong direction. He played every single snap for the Commanders in Week 6, so a potential absence would certainly be felt. Should he not be able to recover in time for Sunday's game against the Panthers, Mykal Walker would presumably be next-in-line at outside linebacker.
