Cut by Carolina
The Panthers released Horsted on Tuesday. Horsted signed with Carolina on Aug. 5 after spending the previous two seasons with the Raiders. The tight end has 14 career catches for 131 yards and two touchdowns. The Panthers kept Ian Thomas, Tommy Tremble and rookie Ja'Tavion Sanders at the position.
Signs with Carolina
The Panthers agreed to terms with Horsted on Monday, David Newton of ESPN.com reports. Horsted is joining a Panthers tight-end room that's currently depleted, as both Ian Thomas (calf) and Tommy Tremble (hamstring) are dealing with injuries. The Princeton product is likely an extra camp body to take some load off the recovering Thomas and Tremble, but if he impresses throughout the preseason, he could earn a depth spot on Carolina's 53-man roster.
Waived by Saints
Horsted was waived/injured by the Saints on Saturday, John Hendrix of SI.com reprts. Horsted inked a deal with New Orleans during OTAs, but he was ultimately unable to show enough to secure a longer stint. His 2023 campaign ended with him on the Raiders' injured reserve due to a hamstring injury. He has seemingly moved on from the injury and will now look for a new landing spot.
Secures deal with Saints
New Orleans signed Horsted to a contract Friday. Horsted finished last season on the Raiders' injured reserve list due to a hamstring issue, but he's presumably now healthy. The tight end was limited mostly to special-teams work with Las Vegas in 2023, logging eight offensive snaps and catching his only target for four yards while recording 216 special-teams snaps. Horsted's signing will help fill the void left by Juwan Johnson's foot injury. Johnson is set for surgery but could still be ready for the start of the regular season.
