Gets interception in win
Sainristil recorded five tackles (two solo) and an interception during Sunday's 20-19 win at New Orleans. Sainristil jumped in front of an off-balance Jake Haener pass early in the second quarter to set up a Commanders touchdown to go up 14-0. His run-stopping chops will likely be tested next when Washington hosts the Eagles in Week 16.
Leading tackler in win
Sainristil registered seven tackles (four solo), a forced fumble and a fumble recovery during Washington's win Sunday versus the Titans. Sainristil led the Commanders in tackles during Sunday's victory in addition to forcing one of the team's to takeaways. The rookie second-round pick has now amassed 68 tackles (47 solo), an interception and nine pass deflections across the first 13 games of his career.
Nabs first career pickoff
Sainristil tallied six tackles (four solo) and intercepted a pass in Sunday's Week 6 loss to Baltimore. Sainristil's pickoff came on the first drive of the game and stalled Baltimore in the red zone. The rookie cornerback grabbed a Lamar Jackson pass that bounced off Mark Andrews' hands and returned it for 38 yards. Sainristil also tied his career high with six stops in the game, a mark he's reached three times this season.
Locking down slot role
Coach Dan Quinn said Tuesday that Sainristil is settling in as the Commanders' top slot cornerback, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports. It's not exactly a surprise after Washington drafted the 5-foot-10, 182-pound cornerback with the 50th overall pick this spring. Sainristil was arguably the best slot corner in all of college football his final two seasons, recording 102 tackles (10.5 TFLs) and seven interceptions for dominant Michigan defenses. His 4.47 40 time and 40-inch vertical hint at long-term potential to take perimeter snaps in the base defense, but he may be limited to a pure slot role for now under new Commanders coach Dan Quinn.
