Robert Woods Latest News
Two touches in win
Woods caught both of his targets for 12 yards in Sunday's 20-12 win over Miami. Woods had the third-most snaps (24) among wide receivers, but his production was similar to previous weeks. After Nico Collins and Tank Dell, Woods is looking for leftovers along with John Metchie (21 snaps, four targets) and Xavier Hutchinson (eight, one). Woods has caught 13 of 19 targets on the season for 124 yards and zero touchdowns.
One target in win
Woods did not catch his lone target in Sunday's 23-20 win over the Jaguars in Week 13. He returned two punts for 13 yards. Woods, who was on the field for 21 offensive snaps, continued to fill a depth role and has just two targets since Nico Collins returned from IR. As a returner, Woods leads the team with a combined 248 yards on punts (four returns) and kickoffs (14).
One target in loss
Woods caught his lone target for eight yards in Sunday's 32-27 loss to the Titans in Week 12. He also returned five punts for 24 yards. Woods, who received a slight bump in targets when injuries hit Houston's WR depth chart, was back to his normal volume in Nico Collins' second game back. Collins saw limited snaps when he returned to duty last week but saw a full workload Sunday, which put a crimp in Woods' usage. His main job these days is as a returner -- 235 returns yards vs. 112 receiving yards -- and he's behind John Metchie and competing with Xavier Hutchinson for fantasy relevancy.
Two catches in win
Woods caught both of his targets for 13 yards in Monday's 34-10 win over the Cowboys in Week 11. He also returned one kickoff for 21 yards. Woods continued a depth role in which he carves out a couple of targets per game, although his snap count took a slight hit with the return of Nico Collins. Since injuries to wideouts started popping up Week 6, Woods has seen an uptick in activity, although maybe not a enough of a bump to spark interest. After missing two games himself as part of the injury wave, Woods has seven receptions on 10 targets for 76 yards while averaging 38 percent of the offensive snaps the last four games.
Takes back seat to young WRs
Woods caught one of three targets for one yard in Sunday's 26-23 loss to Detroit in Week 10. Woods, who logged 24 snaps, once again served as the fourth wideout, as younger receivers Xavier Hutchinson (57 snaps), Tank Dell (51) and John Metchie (44) have become the primary targets with Nico Collins (IR, hamstring) and Stefon Diggs (IR, knee) unavailable. Collins, who was designated to return but was inactive Sunday, could suit up in Week 11 against Dallas, which would further erode Woods' on-field presence. Woods has eight catches on 13 targets for 91 yards and no touchdowns over eight games played this season.
Two catches as fill-in
Woods caught two of three targets for 44 yards in Thursday's 21-13 loss to the Jets in Week 9. Woods got the start with both Nico Collins (hamstring) and Stefon Diggs (knee) unavailable. He played 39 snaps and contributed a 32-yard reception to Houston's lone touchdown drive in the second quarter. If Collins returns as expected for Week 10, then Woods would likely return to a depth role. He has seven catches on 10 targets for 90 yards in seven games played.
Larger role than expected
Woods caught both of his targets for 18 yards in Sunday's 23-20 win over the Colts. He also returned two punts for 23 yards. Woods, who returned to action following a two-game absence due to a foot injury, played a larger role on offense than anticipated. That was due to the potentially serious knee injury suffered by Stefon Diggs, who is headed for an MRI and is unlikely to play Thursday against the Jets. Some combination of Woods, Xavier Hutchinson and John Metchie will fill the wideout void created by Diggs' injury.
Set to return Week 8
Woods (foot) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Colts. Woods will return after a two-game absence, though he isn't expected to play a significant role on offense despite the absence of Nico Collins (hamstring). Woods steadily increased his practice participation throughout the week, going from a DNP on Wednesday to limited participation Thursday before practicing in full Friday.
Returns to practice Thursday
Woods (foot) was listed as a limited participant on the Texans' injury report Thursday. Woods was able to play through a foot injury during the Texans' Week 5 win over the Bills, but the veteran wideout has been sidelined for Houston's last two games. His ability to practice Thursday indicates that Woods is making progress through the issue, and if he's able to practice in at least a limited capacity Friday, he'll give himself a shot at suiting up for Sunday's AFC South clash against the Colts. Woods' return would give the Texans some additional depth at wide receiver while Nico Collins (hamstring) resides on injured reserve.
