Thomas didn't have a tackle and played just three snaps on defense in Sunday's win over Chicago. Thomas started 15 of 17 games last season, but lost the starting free safety job to Nick Cross. It's a little surprising he has a limited role off the bench. He's played just 25 snaps on defense in three games.

Limited role off bench
Thomas didn't have a tackle and played just three snaps on defense in Sunday's win over Chicago. Thomas started 15 of 17 games last season, but lost the starting free safety job to Nick Cross. It's a little surprising he has a limited role off the bench. He's played just 25 snaps on defense in three games.
Facing competition
Thomas isn't guaranteed to be the Colts' starting free safety in 2024, according to defensive coordinator Gus Bradley, James Boyd of The Athletic reports. Thomas started 15 of the 17 games he appeared in last season, but that doesn't mean he'll maintain that role this year. Bradley stated that both Daniel Scott (knee) and Nick Cross will have the opportunity to take the job from Thomas.
Will play Sunday
Thomas was a late addition to the team's injury report, not appearing there until Friday. However, the second-year pro is well enough to take the field in Week 9 and should continue to start at free safety.
