Davis (foot) was placed on the Panthers' injured reserve Tuesday, Darin Gantt of the team's official website reports. Davis was carted off the field during the Panthers' preseason loss to the Jets. It looks like the injury was severe enough to cause a premature end to his 2024 campaign. The linebacker was a key special-teams player for Carolina last year, but he will now set his sights on the 2025 season.
Carted off with foot injury
Davis suffered a foot injury during Saturday's preseason loss to the Jets, Kassidy Hill of the Panthers' official site reports. Davis was hurt on a Jets passing play late in the third quarter and was subsequently carted from the sideline to the locker room. He finished with three tackles (two solo) and a defensed pass in the contest. Davis was a key special-teams player for Carolina last year and will likely reprise that role in 2024 if he makes the 53-man roster.
Back in Carolina
Davis agreed to terms on a contract with the Panthers on Friday. Davis will re-sign with Carolina, where he contributed as a key special-teams player across eight games last season. He also suited up for eight contests with the Falcons in 2023, taking all but one of his snaps on special teams.
Misses another practice
Davis recorded his second consecutive DNP on Thursday, meaning he's likely been diagnosed with a concussion after Sunday's win over the Buccaneers, despite being cleared to return to the contest. The 27-year-old linebacker has recorded two total tackles while playing on 84 percent of Atlanta's special teams snaps this year.
