Howard (knee) does not carry an injury designation for the start of the Texans' training camp, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Howard is working his way back from season-ending knee surgery undergone last November, and while he'll likely be eased back onto the practice field at training camp, it's encouraging that he didn't have to begin on the PUP list. Left tackle Laremy Tunsil is also reportedly fully recovered from his knee scope.

Ready for training camp
Howard (knee) does not carry an injury designation for the start of the Texans' training camp, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Howard is working his way back from season-ending knee surgery undergone last November, and while he'll likely be eased back onto the practice field at training camp, it's encouraging that he didn't have to begin on the PUP list. Left tackle Laremy Tunsil is also reportedly fully recovered from his knee scope.
Clears cap space with restructure
Howard (knee) restructured his contract with the Texans on Friday to clear $10.3 million in salary cap space, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Howard's restructure involves converting the majority of his $14 million base salary into a $12.9 million signing bonus. The starting right tackle is recovering from knee surgery to address patellar tendon issues, which he underwent in November. It's not yet clear whether he'll be ready for training camp.
Shifts to IR
Howard is expected to undergo surgery on his left knee and miss the remainder of the season, making his move to IR an expected formality. The Texans are expected to replace Howard with George Fant at right tackle.
Will get imaging scans Monday
Howard had to be carted to the locker room after hurting his knee late in the first quarter Sunday against Jacksonville, and he wasn't able to return to the game. While a significant injury remains a possibility, there is at least some optimism that the issue is less serious than initially feared. More should be known about Howard's status moving forward following the results of Monday's imaging scans.
Won't return Sunday
In Howard's place, rookie Juice Scruggs -- who was activated off IR on Saturday -- will take the left guard spot for the rest of the contest.
Leaves game with knee injury
Howard was carted to the locker room following the injury. Juice Scruggs has filled in at left guard with Howard out of the game.
