Good to go against Pats
Howard (hamstring) has no injury designation for Sunday's matchup against the Patriots. Howard logged his first full practice of the week on Friday, and now he's active for the Texans' Week 6 outing. The 6-foot-5 offensive tackle has only missed one game so far this year, and it was last week against the Bills.
Won't play Sunday
Howard (hamstring) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Bills. Howard was added to the injury report Thursday and didn't practice Friday, so it's not surprising to see him miss his first game of the season. In Howard's absence, Blake Fisher will make his first NFL start at right tackle.
Healthy again
Howard has now recovered from a knee injury. Howard was previously dealing with a knee injury but managed to play during Houston's preseason matchup versus the Giants. Now healthy, he is slated to serve as the starting right tackle for the team's Week 1 matchup versus the Colts.
Back at practice
Howard (knee) participated at practice Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Howard had missed a few practice sessions as he recovered from an injury to his knee, but he now seems to be back in playing shape. He's on track to be Houston's starting right tackle come Week 1 at Indianapolis.
Slated to miss Friday
Howard is expected to miss out on Friday's preseason matchup against Pittsburgh on Friday with a minor knee injury, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Howard will miss Friday along a slew of Texans players, which should open up an opportunity for offensive lineman Cameron Erving, as right tackle Charlie Heck will also be out. Howard is primed to be a starter on the Texans' offensive line this season if his injury proves to be minor.
Questionable for Friday
Howard sustained an undisclosed injury during Tuesday's practice and sat out practice the following day, Cole Thompson of Texans Wire reports. Howard left the practice early, headed to the blue medical tent and did not return to the field. Houston head coach DeMeco Ryans confirmed Wednesday that Howard "is good" but did not elaborate on the right tackle's status for Friday's preseason tilt against the Steelers.
Ready for training camp
Howard (knee) does not carry an injury designation for the start of the Texans' training camp, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Howard is working his way back from season-ending knee surgery undergone last November, and while he'll likely be eased back onto the practice field at training camp, it's encouraging that he didn't have to begin on the PUP list. Left tackle Laremy Tunsil is also reportedly fully recovered from his knee scope.
Clears cap space with restructure
Howard (knee) restructured his contract with the Texans on Friday to clear $10.3 million in salary cap space, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Howard's restructure involves converting the majority of his $14 million base salary into a $12.9 million signing bonus. The starting right tackle is recovering from knee surgery to address patellar tendon issues, which he underwent in November. It's not yet clear whether he'll be ready for training camp.
Shifts to IR
Howard is expected to undergo surgery on his left knee and miss the remainder of the season, making his move to IR an expected formality. The Texans are expected to replace Howard with George Fant at right tackle.
