Healthy scratch for Week 11
Mallory (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Jets. Mallory appeared in each of the Colts' last seven games, totaling three receptions on six targets for 22 yards across 65 offensive snaps. Mo Alie-Cox, Kylen Granson and Drew Ogletree are the Colts' active tight ends for Week 11.
Gets second reception of season
Mallory had one reception for five yards on his lone target in Sunday's win over Miami. Mallory was the only indy tight end with a reception amid an anemic passing attack under quarterback Anthony Richardson. Mallory played just four snaps on offense and is No. 4 on the depth chart among tight ends, so his upside is limited in the offense.
Gets first reception of season
Mallory had one reception for seven yards on his only target in Sunday's loss at Jacksonville. It was his first reception this season. After being inactive the first three games, he's played the last two games. He played on 16 of the offense's 70 snaps and went out on 13 routes. The Colts continue to divide targets and snaps between three or four tight ends (Kylen Granson played 18 snaps, Mo Alie-Cox played 29, Drew Ogletree played 26). As long as the workload is divided between three our four tight ends, none will have viable fantasy value for most formats.
Slated to make season debut
Mallory is active for Sunday's game against the Steelers. Mallory has yet to play this season. With Jelani Woods (toe) on injured reserve, snaps are available at tight end in Indianapolis. However, Mallory remains behind Kylen Granson, Mo Alie-Cox and Drew Ogletree on the depth chart.
Inactive against Houston
Mallory (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against Houston. With Mallory inactive and Jelani Woods out for the season with a toe injury, Indy's tight-end group has been narrowed to Kylen Granson, Mo Alie-Cox and Drew Ogletree. Mallory could still enter the mix at some point this season.
Makes 53-man roster
Mallory has made Indianapolis' 53-man roster. Mallory missed time early in training camp due to a sore hamstring but is healthy as the regular season begins. Mallory appeared in 12 games as a rookie last season, and the 2023 fifth-round draft pick out of Miami caught 18 of 26 targets for 207 yards. Mallory will be part of a four-man committee at tight end that also includes Kylen Granson, Mo Alie-Cox and Drew Olgetree. The Colts are likely to split targets between the foursome.
Two receptions in preseason opener
Mallory had two receptions for 31 yards on two targets in Sunday's preseason loss to Denver. Mallory had missed time in training camp due to a sore hamstring but looked back to full speed. He's competing with Jelani Woods, Kylen Granson, Mo Alie-Cox and Drew Ogletree for playing time in a deep tight end room that lacks a clear No. 1 option. Indy's first preseason game did little to sort the competition other than all five are healthy.
Back at practice
Mallory (hamstring) was back practicing Friday, Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star reports. Mallory's hamstring injury from the Colts' 2023 season has lingered over to preparation for this upcoming year, but he's now moving in the right direction with a return to practice. The capacity that the 6-foot-4 tight end was able to participate Friday was not disclosed, which makes it unknown whether he'll be able to play in Sunday's preseason game against Denver.
Dealing with hamstring injury
Mallory did not participate in Wednesday's practice session due to a hamstring injury, Joel Erickson of IndyStar.com reports. It's unclear whether Mallory's current hamstring injury is in the same leg that caused him to finish the 2023 sidelined. A return to the practice field is crucial for Mallory, as he's competing with Kylen Granson, Mo Alie-Cox and Drew Ogletree for a backup spot at tight end behind presumptive starter Jelani Woods.
