Kuntz was elevated from the Jets' practice squad Saturday in advance of Sunday's tilt against the Jaguars, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Tyler Conklin is dealing with a personal matter and didn't travel with the team Saturday, though there's still a chance he could play Sunday. Kuntz's elevation appears to have been made with the intention of providing insurance at tight end in case Conklin can't suit up. This elevation is Kuntz's first of the campaign.
Kuntz signed with the Jets' practice squad Wednesday. The 2023 seventh-round pick out of Old Dominion is sticking around in New York after failing to make the team's initial 53-man roster Tuesday. Kuntz appeared in one game for the Jets during his rookie campaign, recording no stats while playing just six total snaps (two offensive and four on special teams).
Kuntz was waived by the Jets on Tuesday, Ethan Greenberg of the team's official site reports. Kuntz spent most of last season on New York's practice squad but did get work in one regular-season game, playing two offensive snaps and four special-teams snaps Week 18 against New England. The tight end out of Old Dominion could end up back on the Jets' practice squad if he clears waivers.
