Adam Silver has been hailed as the best commissioner in pro sports after his swift and decisive handling of the Donald Sterling saga.
Roger Goodell is on the other end of a spectrum, accused of turning a blind eye to domestic violence and being wildly inconsistent in his discipline of players in the wake of the Ray Rice debacle.
But you won’t hear Silver saying anything bad about Goodell.
In fact, approached by a TMZ reporter Wednesday in New York, Silver said Goodell has been a “great commissioner,” that he’s dealing well with a tough situation and that he’s “the dean” of pro sports commissioners and a mentor to Silver.
Silver wouldn’t weigh in on the specifics of the Adrian Peterson case — the latest in a string of off-the-field disasters for the NFL.
But he had nothing but good things to say about Goodell. Asked if Goodell has asked him for advice, Silver said he hadn’t, but that Goodell didn’t need to.
Silver added that he loves football and is a Giants fan.
